Author's Review
With the death of my previous car imminent in the near future unless I poured a couple thousand dollars into doing more work, I realized that it was time to purchase a new car. I wanted to find a vehicle that would get the gas mileage that my VW got when it was running well.
My search brought me to a Nissan dealership i Oceanside, CA, where they showed me a Nissan Versa. It is definitely an ugly car (in my opinion), especially since I wanted a sedan (hatchbacks and coupes are very unattractive to e and I like having a trunk). Apprehensively, I test drove the Versa and was able to get over the ugliness of the car because of the fuel efficiency.
The Pros
-Tilting Steering Wheel (pretty common in just about all cars these days)
-Tire Pressure Sensor (proper inflation gets you better fuel efficiency)
-Fuel Efficiency (Best I have gotten was 34mpg)
-Steering is effortless
-Built in bluetooth: very conveinent!!!
-Comfortable interior: Much better than leather (leather looks good, but it gets hot and sticky)
-6 Speed manual- built for fuel efficiency
-In dash 6 disk changer!!!
-Storage space- I have grown a little more liking of the hatch back
-I can see around the car pretty well from the driver's seat- no real blind spots, although it takes a little getting used to the rear window (hard to explain)
-I love the intelligent key- I don't even have to get my key out of my purse!
-Lots of leg room in the back: I could easily fit 5 adults in the car
The Cons
-The dash cluster looks cheap to me: obviously not a huge deal, but something I noticed
-Rarely gets the high end of fuel efficiency: Even when driving to conserve gas, although it does well, so this is a positive and negative
-6 Speaker sound system: My previous car had an 8 speaker system; so while the audio sounds good, my old car sounded better (there is probably an option for 8 speakers if you buy new).
-Not enough power for my liking: I took my car up to the mountains and didn't have the power I wanted. It was difficult to accelerate to pass vehicles when already going 60 . I can keep up on the highway and get up to 90 just fine, but if I want to get around someone, it is challenging!
-I don't like the drum breaks in the back, but that is because it is harder to do my own breaks!
Who would I recommend this car to?
-Anyone that wants to save money on gas!
-A family of 5 would be great for this car, assuming that there isn't too much you would want to pack in the car (although you could load stuff on the roof for long trips I suppose).
-Someone who goes camping or surfing or to the beach- the car is easy to clean out and has tons of storage if you fold the seats down.
Overall, I am happy with my ugly little Versa!
