Alright for a time

Pokemon Trozei is the latest in a line of Pokemon spin-offs for the Nintendo DS. This time, they've taken the tried-and-tested gameplay of matching 4 alike blocks and given it a Pokemon makeover.

The core of the game consists of this: the screen fills up with dancing Pokemon heads and you must move them around to create blocks of 4. Once this is achieved, you can make blocks of three and then 2, as long as you do it continuously. Every new Pokemon you match is added to your 'Pokedex'. Certain Pokemon are rare and only exist on certain levels, and appear once in a while. These are incredibly difficult to match and therefore can be a source of frustration.

The main game has a rudimentary story behind it; the 'You are such-and-such and you need to rescue Pokemon from the badguys'. It also serves to give an explanation as to why you're matching up disembodied Pokemon heads (they're in Pokeballs and you can only transfer them away from the badguys in bulk).

The gameplay itself can get addicting, however once you've completed the main game it can get somewhat boring as you can only play the same levels over and over again. Once you've done the main game you're unlikely to go back unless you're an obsessive that likes to complete everything 100%.

Graphically, the game is rather nice. The Pokemon heads are well done and the animation is smooth and easy on the eyes. Cutscenes between levels are done in an anime style and add to the immersiveness somewhat.

Sound, however, is less good. Whilst fine to listen to for short periods of time, the tune doesn't really change and you won't remember it. Eventually you'll turn it off and listen to something else.
