The new Nikon Coolpix 8800 VR ----- VR for "Very RAD"?

Date of Review:  Dec 15, 2004
The Bottom Line: The CP 8800 VR is one of the best 8 megapixel prosumer digicam options currently available
Review: The Coolpix 8800 VR is a radical new prosumer digicam, the fifth generation flagship (CP5000, CP5400, CP5700, CP8700) of Nikon's "bridge" digital camera family. Nikon's R&D folks designed this series of upscale digital cameras to provide users with...

8800 Falls Short...FAR short

Date of Review:  Dec 22, 2004
The Bottom Line: Just not worth the price. Too many flaws. Buy a DSLR if you want true performance.
Review: "The Nikon 8800 is money poorly spent."

After a disappointing experience with the coolpix 8800 from Nikon I decided to return the 8800 in favor of the D70 DSLR from Nikon with the Nikkor 18-70mm lens kit. Like some people, I was under the...

Good value for money

Date of Review:  Nov 19, 2004
The Bottom Line: Exceptional value. Excellent resolution at all optical zoom levels. Jerky zoom control. Colour balance good but not perfect. Excellent for middle and close shots. Recommended for serious amateur use.
Review: Having purchased a Panasonic 5M pixel in Singapore a wanted a camera that would give better resolution and greater zooming power. The Nikon 8800 seemed to be the best value for money and to provide the features I needed so I bought one. I've owned a...

The best for the price (at the moment)

Date of Review:  Dec 18, 2004
The Bottom Line: Excellent features at an excellent price makes this camera a stand-out.
Review: Here is some buying information.

(1) The first thing you will need is a compact flash card, and here is what Nikon has to say as of 11/11/04

Nikon has tested the following cards and approved their use in the Coolpix 8800:

Good overall camera

Date of Review:  Mar 13, 2005
The Bottom Line: Great for serious amateurs who don't want the hassle of bulky SLR equipment.
Review: I bought this camera because it had all the features I wanted. The closest Nikon with VR costs way more than this one, and with 10x zoom the VR is necessary. Takes amazing pictures in daylight, and at night with long exposures. If you want to take...

Great camera

Date of Review:  May 10, 2007
The Bottom Line: The ease of use and beautiful shots will make you love this camera.
Review: I bought my 8800 a couple of years ago, mostly for the 10x zoom, and I am consistently impressed with it. The images produced are amazing and the camera is very easy to use (I am not an advanced photographer). It helps to always carry the user...

Bit of a disappointment

Date of Review:  May 19, 2005
The Bottom Line: Get it for grandma or soccer mom if you have $800 to spare. The picture quality is awesome if it happens to be in focus.
Review: This is a great camera if blurry shots are your thing. I'm thinking of putting my month old 8800 up on Ebay and taking what I can get for it and parlaying that into the D70. It's auto focus has let me down way too many times now. And auto focus is...

NIKON 8800 I love it !

Date of Review:  Nov 26, 2004
The Bottom Line: I know that there are a lot of things that could be better....some of which I will never know. This brand can't be beat for a great digital experience.
Review: I am really glad that I bought this specific camera. I got a really great deal ($669) and I was happy about the improvements made from the 8700. I did my research, got frustrated, read some more, got confused, and then decided that it was going to...

Excellent Photos and Features

Date of Review:  Dec 5, 2004
The Bottom Line: Buy it! Excellent pictures. Great features. If you have been using a 3 to 5 megapixel and are ready for a more serious camera this is the one.
Review: Perhaps the most common reason for poor quality photos, especially with a long zoom, is camera shake. I have had this camera for 10 days and have taken a few hundred pictures, many with a high level of zoom, all shot by hand. None have been blurry...

Nikon Coolpix 8800 Digital Camera

Date of Review:  Dec 1, 2004
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend this camera. It has enough options and settings to satisfy the camera bug in all of us. Flash and movies come out great. Buy one and see.
Review: I bought my camera at Abe's of Maine, a Nikon authorized dealer, after trying to buy one at 4 stores with lower prices but pushed add-ons and then canceled my order after I did not buy any add-ons. I love the camera. I took it on a trip over...
