Author's Review
Was the guy who said this game is great off his rocker or simply payed off by Acclaim to endorse the product? The GAMEPLAY is the worst of any SPORTS game I have ever played. The only reason I'm thankful is that I got it on sale for 29.99 at Target. I figured for 30 bucks, how bad can it be? The price should have been my warning. It has evidently plummeted since it's intro. I'm a die hard Madden fan, and one of the most enjoyable things about a real football game, is FRANCHISE MODE, when are the other makers going to realize that most people want to do more than play a game, we want to manage a team??????????? Anyway, even if this had a franchise mode, it still would not help it. I had to practice on passing alone for 2 hours just to complete enough passes to score once. The running seems adequate but passing in an abomination. And Defense wheww control is impossible, trying to press L1 to get on the closest guy while also trying to move a player with the same hand, WHO THOUGHT OF THAT???? not only that, but it's impossible to just move a guy out of the line and get him ready to ruch the QB, you nudge the controller and he's across the line already. The first time I played I had 15 penalties in one quarter. Game control needs to be completely re-worked. I'm beginning to think that the Dreamcast controller needs to be reworked all together, the "analog joystick" is like trying to use a popsicle stick to drive with and the directional buttons are way too loose.
I seriously question whether any Dreamcast football game can live up to Madden. Even NFL 2K with all it's hype and graphics has no franchise mode and navigating through it is just as bad. I don't know who's designing the game play and controls for football on Dreamcast, but they need to hire someone from EA Sports. When PS 2 comes out and Madden 2001, QBC, 2K, and all the other football wannabes will just seem like a bad dream. Maybe EA will develop one for Dreamcast but it doesn't seem likely.
