Another cordless phone disaster
Pros:
The Motorola is a *beautiful* phone.
Cons:
It broke nearly right out of the box.
The Bottom Line:
A nice phone if it only worked.

When I read about all the problems people have with cordless phones here, I don't feel like I am particularly cursed.
My first cordless phone was a Sony 900mhz that always worked just fine. The only problem was that we lost the signal when we walked around in our high-rise.
So we eventually replaced it with a Uniden 2.4ghz base unit and extension that stopped working after 6 months or so. We sent it back to the factory and got it repaired. That was about 6 months ago. It stopped working again about 2 weeks ago.
After doing a thorough search of online reviews, particularly here on epinions.com, I ordered a Motorola M681 and extension unit from amazon.com.
Within a week, the base unit refused to charge. I just sent it back for a refund. Even if it hadn't broken, I still a couple of issues with the phone in terms of features. To begin with, since my wife uses a calling card to phone relatives in Turkey, we wanted the ability to store more than 20 numbers. This the Motorola does. But it does not handle chain dialing. In other words, once you make a connection to the calling card number, you have to dial the international number manually.
The other thing which I didn't have the opportunity to test out is conference calling. We'd like to talk from both the base and extension unit at the same time to an incoming caller, but the Motorola manual states that this *might* only be possible if you have more than one extension. As I said, I never had a chance to test this so I might be wrong here.
I just bought a Panasonic 5.8 base and extension and will report back on it here. I find epinions.com quite useful despite my bad luck with the Motorola.
