Author's Review
Here I am in Montesino Land one more time, this time I am smoking a fine Toro. Yes that is the name of this one I dont know if they named it after a lawnmower or if they have other reasons for naming it that. Just kidding there is a standard Toro size, like Churchill etc.
Size matters when it comes to cigars, just ask the reporter who interviewed Governor Schwarzenegger a long time ago before he entered the world of politics. Arnold told him he would talk until the cigar was gone. I can promise you the reporter was glad Arnold usually smoked cigars bigger than 5 inches long. Today I am smoking a Toro and the size of this Toro is 6inches long and has a ring gauge of 50.
The wrapper on this cigar is a natural one, which is mild and looks like a cup of coffee with cream in it. I am drinking a coke with a little whisky in it and it kind of calms the bite of the alcohol. The cigar its self is a mild bodied cigar that has changing flavor. It started off a little fruity with a hint of nut now it has a little more bite to it. When you have a cigar with a wider ring gauge like this one there tends to be a lot more flavor within. To cut this cigar I used a guillotine cutter, which cuts the end of the cigar off, giving the cigar a chance to flow freely and not have to come to a small opening like if I was to use a punch cutter.
The draw on this cigar is excellent; it is not too tight and not too hard. I love to be able to smoke a cigar with ease and not feel like I am breathing through a straw as well. It also allows the cigar to burn evenly.
The roller did a great job, my cigar is almost half gone and it has been holding a good ash all the way through the smoke. It was also aged well and not hurried along, the thin black line that connects the ash to the light brown wrapper tells me this.
The Montesino line all has the same band on them, not too fancy and also not too plain. Each cigar company can tell you the art on the band sells a lot of cigars to people who are not regular smokers. This is the same as bottles of wine; people purchase wine more when they see a beautiful bottle then if it was to just have a name on it. Do you notice all the different labels on the things you buy they are getting pretty fancy out there.
I am near the end now and the cigar is a little stronger but not too bad, the flavor is still light but flavorful. The Toro cigar is one that you might want to sit down and read with or have a great conversation with your friends or wife. The average smoke time will be around 25-35 minutes depending on how you smoke.
I have still not had any bad luck with the Montesino line, if you are looking for a reliable brand of cigar to enjoy then go the cigar store and find where they have the montesinos. If you notice they are next to the Pepsi, dont buy it. Turn around and take yourself to a real cigar store.
For now I am going to enjoy the last few minutes with this Montesino Toro, so have a good day and take care.
