Author's Review

About two years back, a game was released for the Playstation that instantly became my favorite game. This game was of course Metal Gear Solid. I fell in love with this game. I played it day and night until I beat it. It took me a week or so to beat it and when the whole story unraveled, I was truly satisfied with this game. It kept my attention, and I found myself playing through the game several times just so I can live the story again. Recently, Metal Gear Solid was released for the PC. I downloaded the demo. I thought that this version of the game was smoother looking and even better than the Playstation version. I loved this game so much that I decided to buy it. So if you enjoyed playing the Playstation version of this game, chances are, you’ll love the PC version. While it is the same game, it plays better on the PC. My only complaint was the control. With just a keyboard to use, the control can easily get difficult and annoying. I found that a controller works great with game. So how does this game compare to the Playstation version?

The Story

You play as a Secret Op named Solid Snake. You are on a one-man mission to stop a secret terrorist project called Metal Gear. If you remember, Metal Gear Solid, was released for Nintendo back in 1987. This was not the same story though. It took place in jungles and Zanzibar Alaska. Anyway, as you figure out that Metal Gear is a nuclear launching death machine, you try to get something called a PAL card to override Metal Gears launch. I don’t want to give away anything, but I will say that towards the end when you find out what happens, you will be gapping with amazement. This game had me on the edge of my seat when I was playing it.

This game was the ultimate level of fun for any videogame. I would consider it the best videogame ever made. The gameplay, music, graphics, and the story is all what makes this game the best. In every category it succeeds. So how does this game stack up to its earlier Playstation version? Lets see where this new version of Metal Gear Solid improves and declines. Ratings are from one to five stars. (Please remember that these ratings are for the PC version only)

Here’s The Breakdown

Graphics
*****

The smooth look and feel of this game contributes to the great graphics. To anyone that has played and loved the Playstation version will notice a considerable amount of improvements in the graphics. The frame-rate is noticeably faster too. All of the Codec calls look nicer, the Characters including the soldiers, bosses and Solid Snake all look nicer. This game is just beautiful and the cinemas are amazing.

Control
Without Controller-***
With Controller-****1/2

Even the old Metal Gear solid game had complex controls. The keyboard just makes it hard on you. The controller will make it much easier, but this game has always had somewhat hard control even with the Playstation controller. So if you must, buy a controller, it will make the game easier and more fun for you.

Gameplay
*****

I absolutely love this games gameplay. It is featured in third person view. You can look around in first person too. You can choose from a large amount of weapons for destruction. It is especially a lot of fun to play towards the end of the game. This is when the story unravels and the Cinemas are more recurring.

-------------------------------------------------

Overall
*****

To any fan of the first one, please buy this game. I can still play this game over and over again without losing the strong fun factor this game has. The Playstation version of this game suffered from graphics, but they dramatically improved these graphics on the PC version. But they could have made the controls easier. For any fan of videogames, please try this one out.

Bottom Line: This is my favorite videogame of all time.
