2002 Mazda Protege5

Date of Review:  Feb 21, 2002
The Bottom Line: Mazda, which makes an excellant car in general, has a good, well-balanced and fun vehicle in the Protege5. Can't wait to really wind it out this summer!
Review: The 2002 Mazda Protege5 is an impressive little hatchback, geared towards the 20-something audience. At the outset, it comes fairly well loaded with sunroof, CD player, 16" tires, chrome trim, power locks, windows, and other features for a very...

Overall this is a Great Car! But do your Research first!

Date of Review:  Nov 15, 2004
Review: I own a 2001 silver Mazda Protege ES 5-speed manual. It has 2.0L I-4 130HP, and gets decent gas mileage 25 city, 31 highway. Overall I am very happy with it. However, one thing I didn't know when I bought it were the hidden fees I would have to pay...

Great Economical Car

Date of Review:  Jul 24, 2004
Review: I bought this car new, a 2001 ES and it has some zing to it. I got it with a 5 speed manual. Handling has been really nice, as it hugs the road unlike any other sedan I have been in. Brakes are top notch with 4 wheel power assist, you feel as though...

5spd ES is a great perky little car

Date of Review:  Oct 5, 2005
Review: The 2.0L 5 speed Protege ES is a great little car. The "not too big" spoiler adds a sporty look and does the white gauges and the bigger wheels. The ES is 130 horse power. But with the manual transmission it feels quicker. The interior looks sporty...

2001 Mazda Protege LX

Date of Review:  Jun 13, 2002
The Bottom Line: I recommend the Mazda Protege to anyone who is looking for a new car. Its a great ride for a fabulous price, and its worth every penny.
Review: I got my 2001 Mazda Portege in June, 2001, and it hasn't let me down yet.

Its a perfect economy car for anyone that doesn't have the money for the more popular VW golf or Honda Civic or accord.

The Protege offers a smooth and...

2001 Mazda Protege ES 2.0

Date of Review:  Oct 30, 2002
The Bottom Line: Highly recommended. Great looking, sporty, good sound, nice radio, great handling. Good economical, cheap car.
Review: 2001 Mazda Protege ES 2.0, Black Mica, 5spd, Power windows & locks. This is one of the best economy cars out there. I test drove all the competitors. This one had more bells and whistles for the money and just looked better. Before I bought this...

Drives okay, but lacks quality in many areas

Date of Review:  Feb 28, 2008
Review: Enjoyed the car when purchased, and I still like the way it handles as I prefer a tighter, stiffer, ride. The engine is still very strong after 100k. However, I'm disappointed in the quality in a lot of areas.
Highway gas consumption suffers...

No Complaints

Date of Review:  Nov 25, 2003
The Bottom Line: A perfect car for someone who is value conscious, but doesn't want to sacrifice look and relative performance.
Review: I bought this car new and over two years later we still fully enjoy our 4-door, standard transmission, '01 Mazda Protege ESGT sedan.

As my wife and I live on the West Coast of Canada this car was built in Japan we are very happy and...

Not my first choice, but a good choice.

Date of Review:  Aug 26, 2001
The Bottom Line: With the 2.0 liter engine this would be a great car!
Review: Due to my business travels, I tend to drive a variety of cars. When a model I haven't driven yet is offered, I like to make it my choice... As such, this will not be a review from a "long time owner" but rather like an unbiased test drive...

Mazda Protege ES 2.0 (GT)

Date of Review:  Oct 30, 2002
The Bottom Line: I have try Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla, the protege has a better look and a great feeling when driving.
Review: Very nice car. I have it since 14 months and I had no problems so far, except for some little plastic noise around the dash that has been correct. Very good handling: it take curves really fast without problems.

The ES version with GT...
