Author's Review

Six months ago we moved into a new house which had a very cheap model of dishwasher. After two weeks of rewashing dishes and trying to remove rust spots, I was ready to replace the dishwasher. In our prior home, we had an older model Maytag dishwasher that I loved, so I headed out to look at Maytags.

I have heard others' frustrations with some cheaper brands, so I was prepared to pay a little more to get good results. I briefly considered Kitchenaid, but decided against it because of the higher price. After reading others' epinions on different models of Maytags and talking with the salesman at the Maytag store, I decided on the MDB7100 model. I only paid $487 (including tax)since the Maytag store matches prices of any other retailers.

The extra features this model has over the cheaper models are increased sound insulation for a quieter sound, an extra odds and ends basket, automatic temperature control, Auto Clean Option with Sensor, ToughScrub Option, and Sanitize Option. Two of my favorites are the Sanitize option and the odds and ends basket. I have a 5 month old baby, and the basket works great for bottle nipples and the sanitize feature makes sure that the water reaches a high enough temperature to kill germs.

Another thing I love is the rack configuration. You can fit 19 full size dinner plates on the bottom rack, along with a large basket of silverware! (great for entertaining) It also has a large slot on the left side of the bottom rack that will hold a 9 X 13 pan or a large cookie sheet on its side. The top rack is higher on the left side than the right to handle the extra height, and it is also adjustable in case you need to raise the right side up as well.

The dishwasher has a stainless steel hard food disposer in the bottom of the dishwasher to chop up any food so it is not redeposited on the dishes- it works great! You don't have to rinse anything! I've put in a baked-on lasagne pan without rinsing or scraping and it came out spotless! It also has a Tough Scrub function which I've never needed to use yet. The regular wash works great.

The dishwasher is very quiet, but it also has a 1 to 9 hour delay option that is very easy to use.

The Auto Clean option has a sensor in the dishwasher that "watches" the water. When there is no longer any food in the water, it concludes that the dishes are clean. I use this feature all the time. Just push one button to turn the dishwasher on!

The automatic temperature control makes sure that the water reaches a high enough temperature to clean the dishes (just in case everyone in the family has just taken a shower and the hot water tank is empty.) It has a built in heater that will heat the water to the proper temperature if it is not hot enough.

The controls are very easy to use. Usually I just push one button to turn the dishwasher on. It also has a lockout feature that is great if you have toddlers in the house who like to play with buttons!

I highly recommend this dishwasher. If we ever move again, I will go out and buy another one for our next house. I don't think I could survive without it!
