Author's Review
Simply an amazing achievement of a game: You play the dual-gun totaling anti-hero of your favorite Chow Yun Fat movies. The cliches and voice acting are really overdone, but it made the mood/story a little more enjoyable.
The hyped Bullet Time feature works like a charm. Your character is a near-untouchable badass, but you're not invincible - keep moving around and you'll stay ahead of the three or four bad guys plugging away at you. But if they get a bead on you, well, you could be dead in two or three seconds - even with full health. It adds a sense of urgency to just about every second of the game.
There is a good selection of weapons - but it mostly consists of handguns, shotguns and a few automatic weapons. Controls are easy to master after a few minutes. Graphically the game is beautifully dark and gritty, making it sometimes hard to locate your targets.
The destroy-everything backgrounds are amazing (Everything - glass, tin cans, vending machines, snow, etc. - reacts like it should when shot) - but don't expect to be able to blow holes in walls and walk through them, a la Red Faction.
The game is short (I'm no great gamer and I got through it playing it a few hours a night over three nights), but you'll love every minute of it.
In the early days of the Xbox, this is one of those games that make it worthwhile of getting one. I can't wait for a sequel.
