Barbie and Elmo.
Date of Review: Feb 14, 2007
The Bottom Line: One of my favorite Barbies- the outfit is cute, durable doll, Elmo steals the show! The only thing is that Barbie needs a longer skirt.
The Barbie Loves Elmo T.MX. came into our home as a gift. Actually, we have two of them, 1 for each daughter. This Barbie comes with an Elmo doll, as well as a round purse with Elmo's picture on it.
Barbie:
Barbie measures just over 11 inches, and her hair is in two long ponytails, and she is sporting red sunglasses, knee high black boots, socks (they are not full link, just a cuff that sticks out over the top of the boot) that has Elmo faces printed on it, a black denim skirt with silver belt that has an Elmo face buckle, a blue shirt with Elmo outlined in glitter, and the letters TMX in black stamped in the background, a red knit sweater shrug, red and black bracelets, has a silver purse that is round and has an Elmo face on it, and silver earrings. She also is wearing pink lipstick, and eye shadow, and she has freckles.
Her knees are bendable, and her arms bend at the elbow as well. This doll is very cute, one of the cuter Barbies I have seen. She seems to me to be more juvenile looking than in other Barbies I have seen. I feel like this is a doll that is more aimed at my 3 and 5 year old, and I don't mind that they like this, because sometimes Barbie is a little risque for me. Let me also note that her boots stay on well, and I think her clothes are just darling, but the skirt is a mini-skirt, and you can see her textured flesh colored undies when she sits down.
Elmo:
If you think the Barbie doll is cute, just wait until you get a load of Elmo. He is red and furry, has an orange nose, big white eyeballs, and measures about 4 inches tall. His mouth is opened like he is laughing. He has the letters TMX stamped on his left foot. His limbs are pretty fluffy, but his body is rather hard. When you press down on his tummy, he laughs several times. It is just too cute. He is powered by 3 AG13/Lr44 batteries, and the compartment is in a screw in compartment in his back (you undo the fur via Velcro in the back to get to the compartment) that you open with a Phillips screwdriver.
As for the thing Elmo is sitting on in the picture, it's just a half cardboard box, I threw ours out- besides it would just end up in parts unknown anyway.
Experience
This is by far my favorite Barbie doll. Sure, it's a marketing ploy to get you to buy it, because Barbie loves just about everything, doesn't she? We also have the Barbie loves Spongebob doll, but it is not nearly as cute as this, and the Spongebob does not even do anything. The clothes on this doll are well made, and if I weren't approaching 30 I'd wear the outfit. The doll is well made as well as the Elmo doll. I'd say this is a must for an Elmo fan. Her hair is also nice and long, and I love that it is in 2 ponytails, it's much easier to keep than those with nothing in their hair.
As far as age range- I'd say 3 and up- since the Elmo has batteries, I would not trust him with smaller kids, even though he has a screwed in compartment, he's just the right size to chew on. Plus, since Barbie has sunglasses and bracelets- that's a no no for kids under 2.
The only complaint I would have here is that Barbie's skirt is a little short, but other than that, it is wonderful- a nice add to your Barbie collection!
