Product Review

Finally, Luigi's own game!

by   turantulas ,   Mar 13, 2003

Pros:  Play as Luigi, good graphics, and good music.

Cons:  The stupid vacuum thing.

The Bottom Line:  This is a great game and I would encourage anybody to buy it if you have the money to.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

After recently playing and completing Luigi's Mansion, I found it was a quite fun game. Although, I really hate the fact that they make it seem that you can kill ghosts with a vacuum cleaner.

GRAPHICS 10/10: This game had some of the best graphics I've ever seen out of a Mario game. By the way, in my opinion a Mario game is any game that features either Mario, Luigi, or Peach. Anyway, the graphics were great, from the shining of the coins, to the transparent ghosts, I loved the detail that was in everything. Even the backgrounds, which usually aren't very detailed in most Mario games, was highly detailed. But I think my favorite part of this were the closets, the way they were so intricately designed.

CONTROLS 9/10: The controls for Luigi's Mansion were relatively easy to master. It only took me about 5 minutes to master the controls and this was the first Gamecube game I ever played. I think the only thing I didn't like about the controls was the side step feature. In this Luigi could only sidestep rather than being turn directions, which really bugged me. Overall though, I'd say these controls are a piece of cake. Moving on.

ENEMIES 8/10: The enemies in this game range on difficulty, which is nice, but I got tired of the stupid mice running around everywhere. Most of the Bosses offered a challenge, but some just didn't add up to the quality of other Mario bosses. The overworld enemies were also challenging at times but most were quite easy. Therefore, the enemies didn't really offer much of a challenge most of the time, but the difficulty of others strongly made up for it. That's why the enemies here were able to earn a 8 out of 10 points.

MUSIC 8/10: The music in this game was really well done. From the Mario symphony in the music room, to Luigi whistling in the hall, Nintendo obviously took their time with the soundtrack. Just goes to show all you Playstation freaks that not all aspects of Nintendo are bad. Occasionally I did get really annoyed by the music, but not enough to give it a low score. This just shows you how intricate Nintendo games really are.

GAMEPLAY 9/10: The gameplay was really great on this game. All the secret rooms you can unlock and the fact that you can actually get money instead of some stupid little coin. I personally think that a gold coin should be worth more one dollar, but that's the way nintendo made it. I think the only thing I didn't like was the fact that only certain keys could open certain doors. Anyway, the rooms in the mansion were obviously thought out very well to make the game challenging, but not to impossibly difficult.

Overall, I'd say this is a really great game and clearly worthy of receiving 5 stars. However, If you're not a fan of Mario games, then don't buy this. But when a game is good enough for me to play 3 times, it's a pretty good game. I would really encourage you to buy this game if you get the opportunity.
