Luigi's Mansion
Nintendo, the company that has been loyal to gamers everywhere, has hand- picked the game Luigi's Mansion as their Flag-ship title for the Nintendo Gamecube. Now the question that runs in many people minds is, was it a good decision?
Well in my opinion, it was a fairly descent desicion, sure it isn't the best game, but I have found it to be very entertaining and a lot of fun. However perhaps people are looking for the amount of time they will continually receive fun from it before it wears on them and becomes another, been there done that. I, conversly to the thinking of many critics I have read, did not find this game to wear on me after a short period of time. I actually like this game a lot, and find it a break from my other games, as to it's just fun without any real seriousness involved, allowing me a breather from my normal RPG's.
I have been playing the game for hours now and it has not become boring, but sure their is the repetetiveness of catching ghosts, but on the other hand each room, save a few, showcase one big ghost in which tactics are needed, and sucking them up is not easy. For these ghosts you must first break some sort of puzzle, and as the game progresses it actually gets rather hard.
Now I have a statement for my freind who thinks nintendo is just a kiddy system not meant for adults. First off I want to know why that just because there are no guns, blood, or Gore that the game is deemed kiddy? I give you my word that there's no way a little kid could make it passed area 2 in this game, that means they'd only be able to beat the first hour or so of the game. I, who never have trouble with any puzzles usually, was perplexed for a while on some of this games puzzles. Furthermore, I, who have played videogames my whole life, got stuck for a very long time on the 3rd boss fight, which is extremely hard! So for those of you who are like my freind and say, o it's nintendo they probably give you 100 lives, can go shove it, because I have actually died once or twice in this game, something I haven't done in a game in a while.
Story- Luigi, you, inherits a mansion, but you have never even entered any contest in which you could have received the mansion from. So, perplexed, Mario checks it out for you. Sadly Mario gets captured and it's up to old Luigi, for once, to save him. As you enter the castle you find out there are ghosts there, and you meet up with a strange little man who promises to held you out on your mission by suplying you with ghost busting gadgets.
Simple story but fitting to the game, definately imaginative and new to the Mario story, being if you asked anyone to come up with a story for Mario I doubt anyone would choose an idea anywhere close to this.
Score- 4.5 out of 5
Graphics- Very nice, beautiful environments, lush colors, and amazing lighting effects. You cannot go wrong with this title. And for those of you again who are like my freind and for some reason say the graphics suck, yet are buying Oddworld for the X-Box, well tell them to get their eye's checked if they don't see the horrible frame rate and sketchiness of that title.
Score- 5 out of 5
Sound- My absolute favorite part of the game. The voices are cool and amusing, the music is eerie and envigorating, and the sound effects are awesome. However the sound effects give me nastalgic feelings of Zelda 64, since many of the sounds are similar to those in that game.
Score- 5 out of 5
Gameplay- Where many people were deterred from the game. You are Luigi and you use a vacuum, the poltergust 3000, which I found inventive, and other items to suck up ghosts, and then, using Proffesor E. Gadds invention the portificationizer, turn them into portraits. It's easy at the beginning, but trust me it's not as easy as it seems due to some really mind bending puzzles.
Score- 4 out of 5
Control- Impressive, but then again everything is great with the Gamecube controller.
Score- 5 out of 5
Replay Value- After you finish the game, unknown to many, there IS another form of the mansion, but that can keep you busy for only so long.
Score- 3 out of 5
Reviewers Tilt -Very enjoyable game, this is where that shows.
