Linksys WGA54G Wireless Game Adapter is Junk.

I'm a long time fan of Linksys wireless equipment and my home network consists solely of Linksys products. I have always been pleased with the quality and security of the Linksys products. When I purchased the Linksys WGA54G Wireless Game Adapter, I expected the same smooth configuration and outstanding operation. I was sorely disappointed.

The Adapters simplistic configuration utility and limited instructions did not get the product working or afford me to further configure the device to conform with the security I have in place on my network. I worked on this for about 3 hours and finally called the Linksys customer support line. I got a call center in India and after being on the phone with them for about an hour, the options they provided me we were as follows:

1) Disable WEP and all other security I had setup on my Linksys network. The adapter would atleast intermittently connect with unsecure networks ( like my neighbors ) but would not work with WEP.

2) I could take the unit back to the retailer and trade it out for another Linksys WGA54G and try to get that one to work.

I chose to do neither.

I am taking the unit back and purchasing a real piece of network equipment. An earlier review suggested getting another WRT54G router and setting it up as a client. I've been pleased with the one I have as my primary wireless router and will hopefully be just as pleased using it to smoothly connect my son's Xbox to the network.

I am very disappointed in the quality of the linksys for home use products they have come out with over the last year.
Perhaps I need to look to another vendor to provide the quality of product I expect. I even sat there and looked at the signal strength the WGA54G was receiving from my Linksys WRT54G that was 6 feet away. It never got more than 60% signal strength and continually ran up and down from 25% to about 53%. I have a LinkSYS wireless card in my laptop and it gets 100% signal strength anywhere in the house within 40 feet and never less than 80% anywhere else in my house.
