Author's Review
My office uses these keyboards because they are cheap and from a good brand, Logitech. I have always had a good experience with Logitech in the past. I use this keyboard for about 8 hours a day, so I am very familiar with it
Typing Noise: The main reason I upgraded from my old ancient white keyboard to this was because of typing noise. My old keyboard sounded very loud when typing, and I am a hard/fast typist so it was annoying coworkers when I typed. For this purpose the keyboard is great. It makes only a very soft noise when I type, unlike older keyboards. It feels/sounds like I'm using a more expensive keyboard when I use this.
Installation: Like almost any keyboard, installation is easy. Just connect the usb cable and everything works flawlessly. You do not have to be a computer tech to get this product going.
Hot Keys: This keyboard has a lack of many of the hotkeys that you'll find in more expensive keyboards. For instance the volume controls, internet button, etc. However, I personally find hot key buttons useless and never use them anyway. If you haven't found yourself using these in the past, I would not let this fact keep you from purchasing this keyboard.
Typing: This is where the keyboard miserably fails. It fails the test of long term typing. Now you buy a keyboard strictly for typing, so therefore I consider this keyboard a failure as a whole. Basically, the keyboard is not fast enough to keep up with me. I am a very fast typists with a good keyboard (~100WPM) but with this keyboard I cannot go that fast because it starts messing up. Certain key combinations bug out. For instance the word combination FUNCTION GO on this keyboard will result in FUNCTIO NGO every time. It's not that I'm missing the N key, but the keyboard bugs out when I hit an O key and an N key in sequence. Letting go of the O and then touching the space makes it then release, thus the problematic typing. Please note, this is not a single case scenario This was driving me crazy, so I replaced this with a different BRAND NEW keyboard of the same model (We have a few in the office) within days the new keyboard was doing the same exact thing. Therefore I feel it is safe to say that all keyboards of this model may have this defect (Could have been a bad batch, but why take your chances?). If you are a slower typist (20-60WPM) you will probably not notice the glitches and therefore for you I see no problem with purchasing this keyboard. But fast typists beware and LOOK ELSEWHERE!!
What's sad is that for months I thought the problem was me. I was wondering why I simply could not get these combinations right (When typing fast it's hard to notice if your keyboard is glitching out. Finally, after writing the same word 5 times one day and always getting it wrong, I SLOWLY typed the word to discover the glitch.
I now may have to buy my own keyboard for work so I can type efficiently once again...
