Author's Review
I just got this unit 3 days ago 12-12-06, so far so good. However I did some research on the dishwasher, and now I'm afraid. I read that LG has a terrible service record, and it will most likely fail on me, sometime in the future. I'm nervous, about this purchase. I did buy the extended warranty so I hope it helps, but if the manufacturer will not send replacement parts I guess I will be out of luck.
Now onto performance, this unit is so quiet, the audible sounds, are when the water rushes in from the inlet valve, and splashing when the unit is washing. The motor is dead silent, unlike my old unit (sounded like a jet airplane was running in the kitchen). Wash performance so far is good, however YOU MUST HOOK THIS UNIT UP TO YOUR HOT WATER SUPPLY OR IT WILL NOT CLEAN AT ALL. Most of the complaints I hear about this, and ask questions about usually I find out that when it was installed it was hooked up to the cold water supply. Since the heating element is not exposed in the tub it does take longer to heat water. If you hook it up to the hot water it does do a decent to good job cleaning, depending on detergent water hardness, and cycle selection. I was able to get crusted on pizza dough off a pizza pan last night, which is pretty amazing since I couldn't get the same dough off the pizza pan by hand, and a scotch bright scrubber. Drying is kind of mixed bag, if you live in a desert like I do it's excellent, a little heat and airflow would dry out a lake in no time flat. However I'm skeptical about the hybrid dryer performance in more humid locations. Also you must use jet dry or a drying agent or you will get spots, and somewhat wet dishes. I have a water softener, which helps, but it requires jet dry for the best performance. Water usage is excellent it is a miser, and doesn't require it's own sump (a big deal when your in Arizona water is expensive). Now here is the down side to the unit it takes 2+ hours to complete a cycle.
Loading is good for us we like the capacity since it blows away our old dishwasher, we can fit all our silverware, and all our plates, and bowls in the unit, and still have some left over room (setting of 8), guess I need to buy more dishes.
If I have any problems with LG service I will hire a lawyer, and immediately sue them for breach of contract, I refuse to hand wash dishes (they will wished they never did business with me). I'm nervous about the service contract, I just hope it holds together for at least 5 years, which is the warranty period, I don't hear good things about LG's service, and I hear they don't pay their service men at all, I might be the one repairing the damned thing.
Purchased at Home Depot, for 678.00 I got the white one.
