Pros and Cons of the Koss Pro 4AA
Date of Review: Feb 18, 2001
The Bottom Line: Buy them if you want good sound Isolation, and listen to music or sound with a focus on voice or high notes.
A while back I wrote a mixed review regarding these headphones, I would like to retract that. After a comparison with other Koss Pro 4AA's I realized that the headphones I purchased and then returned were defective. The base on the defective headphones were muddy due to cracked speakers which I had noticed when I took apart said headphones.
After another purchase due to hearing another pair of Koss Pro 4AA's in a music store, I was surprised to hear clear and well balanced sound. I immediately purchased another pair and am quite happy with my decision.
The sound is crisp and clear, with a wide range and strong bass despite my not using a headphone amplifier, and the components are well constructed.
I highly recommend purchasing a pair for any kind of music you may listen to. A warning, however, they are heavy, but you won't find a better constructed headphone on the market, except perhaps the AKG products which are lighter and if you're willing to spend at least 80 dollars or more, have comparable sound. Just a note, the higher quality AKG headphones do take a little more power to run so you may have to turn up the volume, and may possibly need a headphone amplifier a bit to power them properly.
Try them out, make a comparison. You can't really go wrong either way. Just a note, if you want sturdy headphones, the Koss Pro 4AA seems to be the only Koss product that can really take a beating. All other Koss headphones seem to fall apart quite easily.
