Author's Review
I puchased this sub to replace the factory sub under the seat of my Subaru Outback Sport. It complements an Alpine head unit and Polk component speakers. It fit perfectly under my seat, but of course, a sub was already there. I used the mounting bracket that came with the factory sub, but it would be nice if Kenwood could put a few more threaded holes in the bottom for more flexibilty in securing it down. Fortunately, with a little modification and some double-sided tape, the factory bracket worked fine.
Wiring was pretty simple - with the two biggest headaches being getting access to the remote turnon lead from the head unit and doing a home-run to the battery for power. While I'm not sure that it's really necessary for a 150W amplifier, running straight back to the battery could avoid some blown fuse issues later. I really don't like cutting through the firewall.
The only thing I find annoying is that the unit doesn't work without the wired remote attached. My head unit provides all the adjustment I need for the sub outputs, so I don't really need the remote. So, I have a useless (for me) remote with miles of cable floating around the cabin of my car.
The sound is excellent. While it won't compete head-to-head with the 12" sub I had in my previous car, it also doesn't take up any cargo room. So, its suitability will really depend on your musical style. If you want a sub to just fill in the low-end of an otherwise good, but modest system, this sub will do the work. It won't win any awards for you and if you've already supplemented your car stereo with a high power amp for the other speakers, this one won't keep up. My head unit puts out 18W RMS for each of the 4 channels and I think this unit matches that pretty well. When the other speakers start to distort, so does the sub.
So, for what I believe is it's intended purpose, it's pretty much perfect. I haven't given up any cargo space and now like to go out to my car just to listen to the stereo.
