Product Review

One of My Best Friends

by   willy5711 ,   Jan 14, 2007

Pros:  Go anywhere, do anything.

Cons:  Gas.

The Bottom Line:  Buying a Jeep is like buying a family Dog, each breed has it’s quirks. When you get past that – you either love it, or you hate it.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars
Handling And Control: 4/5 stars

Author's Review

I bought my 99 wrangler sport with 52,000 miles on it and now in (2007) it has 120,000 miles on it. I can tell you that nothing has ever gone wrong with it - that is to say, nothing that I didn't cause myself.

I cracked the tranny once when I high-centered my Jeep on a stump in the middle of a field. I couldn't see the stump because of the deep mud and grass. I drove the Jeep for two weeks before I noticed a change in performance.

So I bough a new transmission and some better skid plates - no problem.

I bent the drive shaft to the rear dif. once when I was crossing a river and slipped down into a hole. New drive shaft and a 3inch lift was the solution.

After a day on the trail I can pull the seats and carpet out; I can take the doors off and cover the dash with plastic - then all I need is a corona and a water hose.

I keep her waxed, I change the oil all the time and I use mid to premium gas. She runs like a dream.

The Transmission is smooth when changing gears and lets you know when you have locked into the right gear.

The Jeep is such a light vehicle that it will stop on a dime; its short wheel base, narrow build, and great visibility endow the driver with superb platform from which to execute teeth grinding tight turns. It also enables him/her to negotiate obstacles, to include everything from a river bed to a parking lot at the grocery store.

The point is this: I can't take my Acura T.L on the trail, and I certainly can't drive it through a muddy field, so I take my jeep to play and the T.L to work.

I love my Jeep because it is a Jeep. It rattles and has a stiff ride. But I love it. It’s a Jeep thing.
