A job well done...

Everyone loves a caper flick. These movies have been made for years now and as much as we enjoy watching the action surrounding the actual caper, we love trying to figure out just how the thieves are going to do it. That was the case a few years ago with OCEAN’S ELEVEN and now again with this film.

The heist of a major shipment of gold goes smoothly for a group of thieves, including old timer John Bridger (Donald Sutherland) on his last heist. Things turn sour when one of one of the thieves (Edward Norton) turns on the rest of the group killing Bridger and taking all of the loot for himself, leaving the rest for dead. But they are far from it.

Later, the team reassembles and with the help of Bridger’s daughter (Charlize Theron), an expert safe cracker in her own right, they try to get there money back. Leader Charlie Croker (Mark Wahlberg) thought of Bridger as his own father. Now it’s not just about the gold. It’s about revenge.

The better portion of this film works its way around showing us the different members of the group and how each one has his own specific task to pull off, each one a piece of a larger puzzle. The end result will be their retaking what is rightfully theirs, even if it is all stolen. The best part of the film is trying to figure out just how they will accomplish their goal.

The movie moves along at a fast pace, never taking time to be boring or overindulgent where it could be. The chase scene has received little press which has amazed me. I found it to be far more convincing as well as more intense than the much discussed highway sequence in THE MATRIX: RELOADED.

If you like you movies fast paced with plenty of story to boot, then you have to see this one.
