Product Review

good value for the money

by   pipsquack ,   Mar 10, 2007

Pros:  LOOKS, no battery, conversation piece, better built than a equally priced Timex.

Cons:  Too gaudy for some. Not quite as solid as others in the same price range.

The Bottom Line:  Outstanding value for the money.

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

Author's Review

There's a limited number of companies that make automatics under $200. Until now I've worn Seikos, and I'll use them as my comparison.
You may have read other reviews (as I have) about this watch, and I've found most of the things that are said are true. There are some exaggerations in those reviews, though.
The watch keeps good time and is no better or worse than a Seiko.
The winding rotor is louder, but not overly so.
I've read that the band puts Rolex's to shame. While I have never touched a Rolex band, I can say that although Invicta's band is nice, it's not even as solid as my Seiko Orange Monster. It does have solid links, but the metal feels cheaper to me.
The other thing I've read about is the jittery second hand. This is what kept me from buying this watch sooner. It turns out not to be a big issue. Some people have said that it constantly jitters and pauses - this is not true. You have to give it quite a bump perpendicular to the direction the second hand is facing to notice the "pause". In the course of normal wear, I don't see any jitteryness. Of course, the pauses don't affect the time keeping but it can be embarassing on such an expensive looking watch. I've taken it off to show many people the watch and nobody has noticed this problem.
The crystal and cyclops both sit higher than the bezel which make them prone to scratching. The bezel on my Seiko watches sit higher and protect the crystal from bumps. Also, the shiny strip in the middle of the band are prone to scratching as well.
Mine is the original Rolex (or "coin") style bezel and I have to say that it looks like a million bucks. People always comment on it. It's very classy but not as "bling" as you might think - almost an understated elegance.
If you're used to automatics or solid metal case quartz watches, you will not find the Invicta big or heavy. My Orange Monster is larger and heavier than this watch.
Wearing this watch makes you look like an idiot who spent $5000 on a Rolex. I'm wearing a $100 watch that makes me only look like an idiot who spent $5000 on a Rolex - which makes me an even bigger idiot! I really don't care what people think.
I'll keep my Seiko divers for everyday wear and use this
for dress occasions. I'm glad I finally got this watch.
