Product Review

Great Choice!

by   worldromer ,   Oct 21, 2005

Pros:  Solid almost metal body feel. Awesome picture/size. Equals nearest Toshiba $650 model.

Cons:  No universal 110-220 voltage so transformer required for global use.

The Bottom Line:  Excellent performance, specs and construction priced much lower than the few name brand equivilents

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

We travel the world six months per year. It was time to replace my 5" portable with a newer larger screen unit that would play my home made DVDs. This unit was being sold in Europe under Shinsonic for about $600. I purchased it the first week it became available in the U.S. after viewing, and being dazzled by, Initial's previous similar model in local stores.

The new 1250 has the same solid, quality feel as their prior model. So different from other 'tinny' silver plastic found on other brands. I compared it's screen image against many other brands. Except for $600+ models it blew them away. SUPER clear, sharp images. Quite spectacular. Controls are easy, it sports two headphone outputs and was the only unit offering a USB input. During our travels I used the USB input to 'charge' my mini digital camera that charges on a PC via a USB cable. It worked! Guess one can use new mini hard drives via the USB input.

Used the unit during two months of foreign travel with no glitches except one of five home made discs skipped. I'm confident there is no such thing as 100% compatibility in this area.

I agree with other reviewers who extol the virtues of this wonderful unit. Total fun, great performance and price.
