Author's Review
One of the important decisions we had to make for our daughter when she got to come home from the hospital, was what type of diapers that she would get to use. We ended up realizing that we needed to settle on something that would cater to her umbilical cord, in order to make sure that it would be safe and comfortable until the stump finally fell out. The Huggies Newborn diapers seemed like exactly what we needed, as they were built for umbilical cord care and advertised under their "gentle care" product line.
The main thing that makes the Huggies Gentle Care diapers the ideal diapers for a newborn are that they have a low cut front that dips down so that the belly-button is not covered. This allows for the area of the umbilical cord to be outside of the closed diaper, and allow it to not only remain dry, but to allow it to heal correctly. That also makes them easier to put on our daughter, and allowed her the most important reason to have these diapers; a lot of additional comfort.
These newborn diapers are intended for babies up to 10 pounds, and they fit on our daughter quite well. They have strips on the side that fold over the front and stick nicely, and when they are in use they stay closed quite well. The diapers have been a real treat to use, as they have saved us from messes, and have never leaked. Through several different packages of the diapers we have only had good things to say about them, and they have done a great job at being both comfortable to the baby, and helpful to us as we change her. With no leakage and the baby always happy to have a new Huggies Gentle Care diaper, it made the whole changing process a lot easier.
These Huggies come in 40 and 96 packs, and we had used several of the 40-count packages, not really knowing how many we would need to go through before she lost the rest of her cord. They weren't too expensive, and we thought that they were necessary enough to buy no matter what the price ended up being. A little tid-bit about them was that these were a Disney-baby version of the Huggies, that have little pictures of several characters like Winnie The Pooh and Tigger on the front of them. Sure, this doesn't help the baby at all, but it is really cute when she has a new diaper with these characters on the front of them in light pastel colors.
The end result of using these Huggies Gentle Care diapers was that we were extremely pleased with the product. They did exactly what they were intended to do, by presenting a diaper that was helpful to both the baby and us as the parents, and by preventing leaks as well as providing that comfort level, they turned out to be a great purchase for us. These aren't diapers that will be beneficial for the entire life of your baby, but for the first few weeks, these are an extremely great item to have. Even after the cord has dropped, these diapers will still work well up until the baby reaches that 10 pound limit. If you are bringing home a newborn, this is a great product to have in the house, and one I would suggest having for your baby.
