Author's Review
Yes folks, it was horror movie weekend at the Dee house (except for Into Thin Air and that was scary enough).
Basic story
Picture this - loving family and extended family on a vacation. While driving thru the desert the ole' breakdown occurs. Enter family #2 - Dad (Jupiter), Mom (Mamma-no name), sons Pluto, Mars and Mercury and daughter Ruby. Family #2 has two goals only - protect the family bastian by any means necessary and obtain food, which can include anything, including humans. Yepper ladies and gents, we are talking cannibalism here with a fine Chianti on the side.
Ensuing battles between the suburbanites and the trolls give you a little peek into the evil that lurks in the hearts of all of us. Can I say this horror exploited American and apple pie family was exciting in their defense?
General comments
This movie, and probably the Nightmare series, nestled Wes Craven into the horror genre. He seems to excel in this type of gory tripe, although he has tried unsuccessfully to step away from it before. He has no compunction at all with assaulting your eyes or your mind with the believable unbelievability. Hey, it's damn possible that people like this exist!
It was a fairly gory movie and a lot of loud screaming, reminding you a lot of Texas Chainsaw - the original one, not the new one.
If you like dark and disturbing films that are a little suspenseful and a little intense, this is the baby for you. With the exception of the people eating, it is a really good film, then again, cooked just right....
Actors
Susan Lanier, Robert Houston, Virginia Vincent, Russ Grieve, Dee Wallace, James Whitmore, Cordy Clark, Jonus Blythe, Michael Berryman, Lance Gordon, Arthur King and Flora & Stricker as Beauty and The Beast, the dogs.
