Author's Review
If you cant tell by my other opinions in these category I just love HP Laser printers. To me they are the best on the market, and their prices are competitive. I have yet to find any printer that is made better than HP, and in my job which is computer service technician/sales representative I work with most of the major brands of printers.
HP makes a printer series for just about every single market in the world. The make a personal laser printer, a small office laser printer and a work group size printer and a departmental size laser printer.
This brings me to the subject of this review, the HP 5000 which is a work group class laser printer. It's also has a a feature that sets it a side from your average work group laser printer, this laser printer has the ability to print on larger format paper 11"x17" and it also prints at 1200 dpi or dots per inch, which has some of the best print quality in the industry. Which makes it perfect for a company that is looking for a printer for a CAD application or also a publishing application.
The HP 5000 laser printer fits into the work group classification, because it prints at a fast speed and has a duty cycle of 65,000 pages. Which basically means the printing mechanism can handle 65,000 pages a month without any major wear on the printer. The reason that it is very important consider the work load when choosing a laser printer is, because a laser printer uses rubber rollers to move the paper throughout the printer, and as the paper is being moved throughout the printer the rollers are picking up paper dust and other contaminates, these will over time reduce the printers ability to move the paper through the printer. So the manufacturer designed each series of printers to handle a specific workload and classified them by duty cycle.
HP also included other features to enhance the operation of the printer; including 4 MB of memory for printing larger files(upgradable to 100 MB) and 350 sheet capacity paper input. With optional paper tray's the maximum paper input is 1100 sheets. Which would allow for larger prints jobs to be printed unattended. One other optional feature of this laser printer is duplex feature which will allow for back and front printing without having to reload the paper.
The HP 5000 can be attached to a stand alone PC by a parallel cable or it can be attached to a network with an internal JetDirect ethernet adapter.
In conclusion, I think this is a super printer. Having seen it in action, it is a fast quiet and very reliable printer.
