don't buy

We bought this unit in April 2008 for $147. Our basement has always had high humidity and we have always run a dehumidifier 7 days a week 365 days a year to keep it down and to not have a musty smell in the basement. It worked for about a month, but never got the humidity below 55%. The dump bucket was poorly designed and was hard to dump usually causing a spill on the floor that would have to be cleaned up. The unit was louder than my previous unit that was at least 10 years old. When I first got it the humidity was a 69%. It did take the musty smell out for awhile. It made the area it was in very warm. Called the company, the representatives were very helpful, and they said they would replace it, but it would cost me $15 in S & H charges and that I would need to dispose of the unit. We decided to take it back to the store that we bought it at and exchange it for a new one. When we were at the return desk the clerk told us that this was the fourth Haier unit returned that day and that most were buying a different brand. We decided to get our money back and research the different brands that are available. Another fine product "MADE IN CHINA" go figure.
