Great game for the kids and adults
Date of Review: Jul 5, 2008
The Bottom Line: Buy it - if you have a 360- they have downloadable content. Otherwise great fun for all family members.
In the game you are the guitar player for 70 songs that come with the game. The game and controller come together in a bundle. The wii-mote gets plugged into the guitar controller and fits into a compartment in the guitar controller.
When you first place the game into the wii, you have to use the joystick on the controller to move the hand to the game channel, and then to select start. From there you use the green button on the guitar fret board to move forward, the red button to move backwards through the game menus.
I recommend starting with Training and Tutorials. While a bit pain staking it gives you a good idea of how to play the game. There is also a practice area where you can play really badly without getting kicked off the stage.
The career mode is where you play single-player. You have to complete three of the first four songs in order to move forward in the game. The game tracks your % of correct notes as well as your longest "streak". Once you have completed the first song successfully you start earning money. This money can be used in the store to buy additional songs, outfits, characters, and guitars.
On co-op mode, you can play two-player; but you have to purchase an additional guitar controller and must have a second wii-mote. In this mode two people work together to work through the same track as career mode. It is just one plays the bass lines and the other the guitar.
To beat the game you have to beat career mode in Easy (uses three out of the five buttons on the fret board); Medium (uses 4), Hard (uses 5), and Expert (uses 5).
Online play - you can connect your wii to the internet and play other players in a battle mode. You can select the parameters in which you want to play. We have only used this a few times and it is a good way to get beat by some 9 year old in another state.
