Author's Review
I think that probably my absolute favorite country singer is Alan Jackson. Im always aware of when a new CD is coming out and buy it right away. I was very happy when I heard that he was releasing Good Time on March 4, 2008 and got my copy just a day or two later.
The Music
Good Time is a bouncy very county sounding song that utilizes the guitar and fiddle to keep me bouncing in my seat and tapping my toe too.
Small Town Southern Man is a slow, seeming to be autobiographical song that sings of being a southern man and the things that loves and does in his life.
I Wish I Could Back Up is another slower but powerful song that really grabs me. I think this one will start playing on the radio and moving up the charts. I think this is probably my favorite song on this CD. I love the soft melody, the mandolin playing solo and just the whole feel of this song. The beat and words are catchy and make me want to sing along.
I wish I could back up and start all over
I'd make the first time feel like forever
not to be younger may be just to be smarter
I wish I could back up and start all over
time takes you places you never knew you'd be goin'
it softens the edges of memories you're towin'
it changes the reasons
you wanted to hold her
I wish I could back up and start all over
Country Boy This song is a little faster and while I like it isnt one that I want to play again right after hearing it. Nothing stands out particularly with this song.
Right Where I Want YouI like the soft melody of this song and the message of it as well. I love the cleverness of the words and of course Alans soft deep voice as he sings of love.
1976 Alan sings of the year 1976 and who was becoming. This song also has an autobiographical feel to it. It has a medium speed beat and is backed by guitars, drums and a good beat.
When the Love Factors High
Long, Long Way I like the beat of this song as the banjo and steel guitar keeps the toe tapping beat. It is a fun song that is rhythmic and full of energy.
Sissys Song this is a very slow, rather sad song about the loss of someone much too young to die. Although it is a bit sad, it also sings of hope and comfort.
She flew up to Heaven on the wings of angels
By the clouds and stars and passed where no one sees
And she walks with Jesus and her loved ones waiting
And I know she's smiling saying
Don't worry 'bout me
I Still Like BolognaIs a peppy song with a message of remembering the things that the singer loves about the simple life.
This too is a medium speed song with a good guitar strumming behind the words. While all the modern conveniences are great he still likes bologna sandwiches on white bread, the sound of a whippoorwill and grass between his toes.
Never Loved Before (with Martina McBride)
Nothing Left To Do is another medium speed song with catchy words and a great guitar solo in the middle. It is another song that I listen to as it comes up but wouldnt say is my favorite of this CD.
Listen to Your Senses is a sensitive song of life long love and how important it is. This is a slow and melodic song that has a warm feel to it.
This Time
Laid Back in Low Key (Cay) This is a peppy song that makes me think a bit of Kenny Chesney and his style of music. It has a summer feel to it, and takes me away to beach, the sun and surf.
If You Want To Make Me Happy Is a slower song of sadness and loss. It is song of drinking to forget the pain and listening to sad music too.
If Jesus Walked the World Today
My Feelings
I love this CD! As you can probably tell by my review of the songs I find each one special in its own way. I do of course have some that I like better than others, but I really do like them all.
I think that I Wish I Could Back Up is a wonderful song and probably my favorite on the CD. I do expect it to become one of the hits off of this album in the near future. (remember you heard it hear first )
Right now I think the only song that is getting air time is Small Town Southern Man and I do really love that song as well.
How fantastic is it that ALL songs on this CD were written by Alan Jackson!! Not only can he sing great, look good, play guitar, he writes his own music too!! He is a fantastic well-rounded musician that I enjoy listening to every chance I get.
Nuts & Bolts
Good Time by Alan Jackson was produced by Keith Stegall on the Arista label.
I paid just $9.97 for this 71 minute CD
very well worth its price that is for sure!
This CD comes in a cardboard case that includes the words for all of the 17 songs that are on it. There are a few pictures included in the liner notes (always love that) and surprisingly the picture on the back cover does not look like Alan Jackson at all to me. Perhaps it is the baseball cap rather than a cowboy hat, less of a moustache or something but it just has a really different look to it.
