Alan Jackson Wrote Everything on Good Time Himself!

by   kirsib ,   Mar 10, 2008

Pros:  17 songs, great lyrics, country music at its best

Cons:  I'm not crazy about the duet with Martina McBride..

The Bottom Line:  Well worth the price, 17 solid country hits from Alan himself. Dynamite!

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

It seems to be a pretty good time to be a country music fan in 2008! Dolly Parton just came out with back to basics straight country album and Alan Jackson follows the same route. George Strait is about to release his next masterpiece so the Old Dogs are still very much IN today!

This album is honest and not too sophisticated or artistic, just plain old good country! After saying that I don't mean that it would be boring or too old fashioned or flat. Not by any means!

Maybe the biggest surprise to me was counting the songs! There is 17 and they are ALL original and written by Alan Jackson himself. Alan sounds so comfortable in his skin singing everything that I truly believe that he did have Good Time while recording this one!

There is plenty fiddling and toe tapping and funk and easy to follow melodies. His first radio release Small Town Southern Man sounds so familiar that you almost think it as an older Alan song! He sings about faith and values and how to raise a family as a Southern Man, only loving his one woman and keeping his land. Yeah, I see some irony there..

I think I like his slower ballads even more than those country-opry-party tunes. I Wish I Could Back Up brings more serious Alan and tells a story of a man who is missing his woman. I love the lyrics and I think it is a mandolin behind him? Country Boy is Alan being sexy and taking his girl for a drive.

I'm a country boy, I got a four wheel drive, climb in my bed I take you for a drive..

Yeah, baby, you still got it!!

Maybe the most powerful song here is called Sissy's Song very personal song for Alan about a young lady who is now walking with Jesus. Only 3 minutes long but there is nothing more left to say!

There is so much to discover and listen and truly inhale that it takes you way more than one listening to dig even through the surface of this CD! Alan goes from being dead serious to being that funny guy who still likes bologna on his bread now and then.

And then there is a duet with Martina McBride, faster love song with two power houses colliding. I can't feel any sparkles flying between these two and maybe singing about loving each other like never was not the smartest choice? I'd love to hear Garth & Trisha doing this one (sorry, but so true..)

So Alan Jackson moved back to more Nashville and should produce some quite profitable and enjoyable hits to get out there with some great visuals for us drooling country girls to jam on. When you got it you just GOT IT. And Alan is the whole package!

This album was released March 4th 2008 in Arista Label and produced by Keith Stegall
