Author's Review
My first experience with the Smashing Pumpkins was Siamese Dream. I loved that album so much, I decided to back track and buy their first album, Gish. I can say with complete honesty that I was floored the first time I heard this album.
Musically, this is one of the most powerful, moving albums ever. Billy Corgan once made a comment that this album is "an instrumental album...it just happens to have lyrics." If you listen to Gish, you can see what he meant by that comment. In several places the music becomes so powerful it can be overwhelming in an awesome way.
The lyrics are very poetic, cryptic, beautiful, powerful, and moving.
This album is truly a work of art. I have found by talking to people that Smashing Pumpkins fans tend to respect this album and most will agree it is one of their best. Yet non-Smashing Pumpkins fans love this album, even if they do not like any other album the Smashing Pumpkins made.
I have had to replace this album three times already because I have listened to it so much. It never gets old or stale. In fact, I think it becomes more brilliant each time I listen to it. I am always hearing new things in each song.
I have yet to find a person who did not find this album to be truly great. Rock fans will not be disappointed with this one.
