Author's Review
Do you ever get tired of that wasted space your microwave takes up on your counter? Well, my wife and I did. So we decided to purchase a microwave oven that fits right above our stove, you know that spot where that hood is that you very rarely use. Once in a while, we might use the actual fan, most of the time we just use the little light that it is equipped with. I know that $7-$800 for a microwave might be a bit too much. But you will enjoy this space that is added to your counter when you remove that countertop space eater of a microwave. At first we thought maybe we had made a mistake spending this much money on a microwave. But once we installed it and started using it. We have never regretted purchasing this microwave from General Electric this is a great space-saving idea.
Description
The one that we purchased was stainless steel in color, but they have other colors to choose from, and they are the black, chrome, white, and bisque (off-white color). The dimensions of this particular microwave are 15 3/4" high in the front, and 16 1/2 inches in the back. This is also 15 inches deep, this means from the front of the microwave all the way to the back side. And in case you needed to know the door opening it is 21 3/4". You will need a minimum of 36 inch opening in your cabinets too slide this in. This unit also has an additional filter Kit that should be used on those microwaves that do not have a vent that will lead to the outside. This filter is a re-circulating charcoal filter Kit, this is what I had to do since I only had cabinets above my microwave and no way to remove the exhaust. Installation of this microwave unit is pretty simple if you have some basic electrical knowledge and carpentry knowledge.
Features
This has a lot of features and benefits that you will love, and paying that kind of money you would expect to get a lot of good features that you will like and not the ones you don't like. There is 1.8 ft.³ of cooking space inside of this microwave; this is equipped with 1100 W of power. This has a very stylish handle that sits right alongside of all of your electronic touch controls. Basically one touch controls does it all, and the built-in sensors that will monitor the moisture level of the food and automatically adjust the time and power to deliver the best heat for the best cooking results. Another nice feature is the fact that this will evenly defrost a pound of beef, up to 50% faster than the older models without cooking any of the frozen food. If you do have to use the charcoal filter it is built right into the top and it is out of sight when you are not using it. There are also custom touch pads for chicken, fish, drinks, popcorn, potatoes, and reheat all vegetables. Inside of your microwave, you will have a 14 1/2 inch recessed turntable, which is big enough to hold a 5 quart casserole. This also can be very easily remove for cleaning. There is a cooking reminder with the volume control that will go off when your food is done. This also had a well illuminated digital clock, and a three speed, high capacity of exhaust fan, with a boost of 300 ft.³ per minute, included with this fan is a halogen cooktop lighting system, and a halogen cavity light. This also has a smart control system with the ability to electronically scroll through the digital displays. If you are in the mood or have the time to defrost something, there is an automatic defrost, timed defrost, and a quick defrost one touch control. This also has a bilingual on-off display pad. One of the things I like most about this is the express cook up. All you have to do is hit it once for one minute or twice for two minutes etc. all the way up to six minutes. You can also set the different power level that should like this comes equipped with 10 different power levels.
Specifications
The total weight of this microwave oven is 71 pounds after shipping, and it is 36 inches across the front, and 15 1/4 inches in depth, and 16 1/2 inches in height. The inside dimensions are approximately 22" x 9.5" by 14 1/2 inches. This also requires 120 V grounded outlet, and it must be located above this microwave oven.
Usefulness
We have had this microwave oven for a couple years now, and it is only on rare occasions that we end up using our actual stove. If you can cook it, we have stuck it inside of this microwave. I have not had any problems defrosting something and going straight into cooking it. This will cut your cooking time in half, compared to the older models of microwaves. I have had absolutely no problems with this microwave. General Electric has been around for years and its reputation speaks for itself. If your kids like to use the microwave, it is very easy for even your children to use it. For those times when they just want to zap a hot dog or just warm up some leftovers it is very user friendly.
Warranty
This has the regular kind of warranty that you would expect on a microwave oven. This consists of a limited one year for the entire appliance. There is a five year warranty on the magnetron tube that is inside of the microwave unit. They will warranty the labor for one year, and if you have a product that is dated after 2006 January 1, it might be a little bit different, so you have to check the written warranty to see what is covered.
Conclusion
I would highly recommend this microwave to anyone for a couple of reasons. One, you can save you a lot of space on your counter, and two, it will cut your cooking time and defrost time in half. Plus I do not think you have to worry about it breaking down. I have yet to have to call a service man out for this microwave.
