Dries great but lint trap is USELESS

We've had this dryer for a little over two months. It replaced an old Whirlpool model that had given up the ghost. I purposely opted for a swing-open rather than drop-down door this time because the drop-down door made it hard on my back to reach way in the rear of the drier to pick out clothes. I figured that would be even worse with a larger capacity model. I chose this model because of the large capacity, the variety of cycles and temperatures, and the drying rack.

I am very pleased with the drying capability of this model...things dry nicely in one cycle, and the wrinkle guard setting helps keep things from wrinkling if I don't get there right when the cycle ends. I did shut off the end of cycle buzzer because of the very annoying, smoke detector-like sound it makes. Other than that, the dryer is very quiet when it's in operation.

My biggest complaint is the lint trap. It is right in the lower front of the drum, and when you open the door at the end of a cycle, lint ALWAYS flies out of the door and onto the floor. These long snakes of lint get stuck to the inner seal on the door and to the clothing in the front of the drum and have to be picked off by hand. The lint sticks to the opposing faces of the door and the outer edge of the drum and has to be wiped off after every load. The lint trap itself allows a LOT of lint to pass by, requiring me to stick my fingers way down into the channel (after removed the mesh screen) to pull out clumps of lint. The exhaust vent outside spews a LOT of lint out. We have a screen to block rodents from getting into the trap, and we have to remove it frequently to get the clumps of trapped lint out. This is more than a minor inconvenience...it is a major hassle. I wish I had realized sooner how bad this issue was so I could have returned this dryer for a different model.
