Lint trap isn't trapping enough lint!

Okay, we got the home depot special package for our new renovated laundry room for two main reasons;
1. Stack-able full size
2. Side Vent able

I now know why men shouldn't be deciding on appliances they never use... bad criteria for selection!!!

Washer: GE Model: WBVH6240F
Dryer: GE Model: DBVH512E/GF

We purchased the set in mid June and started using them in mid September. They appeared to be functioning acceptably well until late October when I noticed and removed a huge tennis ball sized clump of lint from the outside venting. I first assumed the lint trap wasn't being cleaned regularly - but later learned the lint trap wasn't trapping much lint...
On closer inspection, I looked inside the cavity with the lint screen removed, there was all kinds of lint gathering on the wrong side of the lint trap...
Only a couple weeks later, my laundry room floor was covered in water... after confirming the hot water tank and humidifier systems were bone dry... we filled the washer and sure enough the door seal was letting streams of water out!
Called home depot for service, service guy said they'd have to order and replace the rubber seal... should be a couple weeks - and he tried to tell us the dryer was functioning properly - and various other fairy tails!
Well, we are not exploring the path of returning these for a more reliable set...
