Product Review

DVD Player failed after 10 months

by   tonyd98 ,   Mar 12, 2004

Pros:  Easy to use

Cons:  Common DVD player failure.

The Bottom Line:  I would not purchase a combination unit like this again. Spend the little extra $ and get two separate units.

Overall Rating: 2/5 stars

Author's Review

We purchased this unit for my son's room and it worked great for 10 months. It was easy to setup and use. It then just stopped reading DVDs. It would just spin and not load the DVD. I called the mfg (Funai Corp) and they told me to unplug the unit for 30 mins and try again. I did that and tried playing a DVD. It worked and I thought the problem was resolved until I went to play another DVD and it once again did not load.

I called the mfg again and they told me to take it to a repair shop locally since it was still under a parts only warranty. I called the repair shop and they told me that they do not fix the DVD players since the parts cost more than the unit. I called the mfg once again and they told me that Funai will cover shipping to a service center in NJ, however, I was going to have to pay the flat labor rate of $45.

In searching the internet, it appears that this is a common problem with this model and I don't intend to get it fixed. I would rather put the money toward buying a better unit. I only wish I would have done the research prior to purchasing it.
