The body count continues...

After viewing the original Friday the 13th and being generally satisfied with it I decided to rent the sequels. After about a month I finally got around to doing that so I saw Friday the 13th part two tonight.

Plot
The plot is similar to the first as it involves a group of teenagers hoping to start up the camp again. There is the camp counselor who wants to train all of the other leaders. It is five years later and legend has it that Jason saw his mother getting beheaded and wants revenge. The counselors are on the other side of camp blood and the lead counselor warns everyone not to go on the other side to camp blood. Being dumb teenagers that they are two of them go over and that’s when the killings begin.

Acting
Acting in a horror flick is usually nothing spectacular with only a few decent actors. This holds true in this movie. Most of the teens are below average actors that are not terrible but nothing great. The one good actor is Amy Steel who seems to be a bit better than the rest of the cast.

Score
The score in this film is about the same as the last. It includes the famous CH-CH-CH that you hear every time Jason is about to murder someone. The sound effects to go with it are above par and make a great effect when someone dies.

Blood Gore and Suspense
This movie had to cut about forty eight seconds to avoid the X rating so it did not include all of the gore it could have had. Most of the kills have a fair amount of gore so that it is not very bloody but isn’t bloodless. The suspense in this film is actually pretty good and has some great jump scenes. There are some fake outs but they are well done and have some good jumps.

Thoughts
I think this film was about as good as the original maybe a little better. I think that the final sequence was well done and had some interesting moments in it. This movie was not exactly very scary but it did have some suspense. One thing I did not like was Jason’s head is covered by a white sheet. It looks cheesy and is not that scary. The kills that occurred through out the movie were onscreen and were well done. The kills were cool and for the most part creative. They had blood but not as much as it could have due to it had to get cut.

Overall
I think this was a good movie that was about on par with the original. There was a fun atmosphere that gave the movie a campy but creepy feel to it. I thought this was a little scarier than the original due to it had more suspense and was better done. I would recommend this to any one who enjoyed the first one or who likes fun campy slasher flicks. Now all I need to do is rent the third one.
