A little too fussy for this climate
Pros:
good ride, roomy, decent gas mileage
Cons:
bad design causes water to get in and short out blower motor
The Bottom Line:
It's an ok car, but I'm sure you can do better for the money, it feels cheap and is too fussy for any climate where it rains

Author's Review
I wouldn't have picked a Ford Taurus if I hadn't needed a car immediately. I wish I would have waited since it seems that this model year doesn't like moisture at all.
First I'll start with the good, it drives nice. It's smooth and brakes well. There is a lot of room in the trunk.
The gas mileage isn't bad, it gets around 22 MPG highway, about 16 MPG stop and go.
There is room in the backseat for three full-sized child restraints, including lower and upper anchor points for each seat.
The engine will start in sub-zero temperatures, I have had some problems with the door handles sticking, but that's to be expected as it's parked in the driveway and not in a garage.
Now for the bad. The rotors are warped, no matter how often you have them replaced they will warp and then stopping is a bit bumpy - it's does not keep the car from stopping but it is an annoyance.
Next, rain, snow, what have you, this car does not like wet. Two weeks after I got it the blower motor for the AC/heat went out, seems it's because of a poorly designed cowl in the passenger's compartment, right where the blower motor and resistor are located. Water gets in, motor shorts out.
It's not a cheap fix unless you are mechanically inclined then you can pick up a manual and do the repairs yourself.
The other thing that disappointed me was the cabin plastics (door handles, seatbelts and etc.) I had a Taurus wagon from 1995 that had better looking interior appointments, this 2005 just looks overly cheap and plastic, I would have expected some a little better for the money.
