I have owned 3 Fox body 5 liter Mustang convertibles. I now own an '01 3.8 liter convertible and an '03 GT convert. This is the best Mustang yet. The Mustang GT is much more fun to drive than any Mustang or performance car I've ever owned, and the easy maintenance makes Mustang the winner. The GT
is fun on the freeway and easy on city streets, though many
cars get better mileage, even Corvettes. I believe the modular engine was an expense-saving compromise for Ford, and the mileage suffers from pushing power without two cams.
Even my wife's 3.8 liter with the Premium package is a fun car to drive, and looks really good wherever we show up. It's the ubiquitous silver with black leather and the only styling complaint is the phony air dams, being sort of modern day
style without function.
The top is an easy one hand operation. The stock engine is no compromise, it packs impressive power compared to my wife's 3.8 and most cars on the road nowadays. Because it is heavier than my 5 liter cars, it seems to lack the explosive punch of the 225 hp push rods, but it snarls impressively, has substantial initial launch power, and if I'm willing to drop the mileage to 12- 13 mpg, can be driven fast enough to keep up with most "performance" cars selling for 40 to 50 grand or more. My GT is metallic charcoal gray with a tan leather interior, and invites looks and compliments everywhere.A Mustang is a statement about the fun-loving side of the driver, and the convertible is even more so.The GT has a much more aggressive appearance and performance than the standard 3.8 as well as all the Sebrings, Solaras, 3 series BMW's, and Audis on the road.

The car sold new for near $30,000 with all the options, I stole it for around $17,000 with 19,000 miles and the new car smell intact. Even my friend who owns a ZO-5\Corvette is suitably impressed.I love this car and I look forward to driving it every day. I know the new '05 model is selling
well as a whole new Mustang, but I think it's too big, too heavy and stainless steel dash retro-looking.Mustangs were
designed to be tight, compact sports or at least sporty cars.
I had a 289 V8 convertible in 1965 (yes, I'm that old) and
my '03 is that car again in agility and pleasureability.
I believe the new edge Mustangs are as big as that concept
can be allowed to go, with all the added luxury a bonus.
I love the leather interior and matching plastic in
both our cars, they equal many luxury cars in
beauty and function. The controls are really simple, and
the 6 CD player and deeply rich sounding speakers equal many
custom installations. I can easily play any track on one of 6 CD's in seconds, and the Mach 460 system is concert-hall performance quality. Even though both cars are convertibles, conversation at 70 mph is never a strain, and there is not one squeak or rattle. We run the air conditioning in both cars 24/7 living in smoggy LA, and neither ever overheats. My wife is 5'2" and I am 6' and we both fit in either car. although the GT was a bit cramped for me until we extended the seat track with brackets.
My mechanic figured out a way to give me another two
inches of room by attaching steel brackets to the seat track.
(In the GT, which has thicker upholstery).This has made the car double the fun. I get 25mpg on the highway, 14-16 in the city with judicious use of the power. The base '03 GT convertible is the benchmark Mustang and is tremendous bang for the buck, both in performance and styling.
