Author's Review
Fonseca is named after a port in Cuba, which used to produce famous cigars. Since we cannot smoke Cubans in the United States, we have to settle for second best. Actually that is not quite true as Fonseca has a winner here, and they are a very reputable company. My first premium cigar was a Fonseca Sun Grown Cedar, which is a lot more full bodied than this smoke is. That is why I recommend this cigar for more novice and mild cigar lovers.
This cigar has a very creamy taste, with hints of wood and coffee flavors. It starts out very mild, and stays consistently this way throughout for the whole smoking experience. I recommend either the guillotine cut or punch cut with this cigar-its up to you what your preference is. That is because the cigar smokes perfectly, and there are no "tight draw" issues here that can drive a smoker crazy who's trying to relax or play golf. This is a smooth performer without any harshness, which is for many a very serious issue.
Overall construction is outstanding, as this stogie stays in place from beginning to end. It should be a little bit soft when coming out of the humidor, and there are no green tobacco's placed inside. The Fonseca line is very consistent about this, unlike some lines where you don't know about how raw the tobacco is inside. It holds up well, and can be smoked in about 45 minutes. Ash holds on very well, and I've actually had over an inch of it hold on while smoking, which proves overall quality is high.
This is a winning cigar that I like still even though I've moved on to more bold/full flavored cigars. I recommend it after a breakfast, or for a relaxing evening under the stars. This is a good cigar to enjoy with a blended Scotch Whiskey, as the flavors coexist perfectly without any infusions of confusion or annoyance. It is easy on the palate, and Fonseca will hopefully continue to produce this cigar. You can purchase it for $5.00 from any reputable tobacco store, and Fonsecas are a widely respected brand in the international market as well.
