The greatest thing about this game is the graphics. It looks like you are actually in the movie, swimming around in a 3-D ocean, albeit a linear one. This makes for extremely s-l-o-w load times between cut scenes. The actual in-game graphics are some of the best I have seen though. The textures are amazing, the shadows and characters are very well detailed. The animation sequences are film quality, and the characters voices are pulled from the movie as well. When I said linear 3-D I meant you are limited in the places you can swim to. Your path is pretty much laid out for you. You are blocked from going in the wrong direction.
You swim around as different characters from the movie, starting off as Nemo on your way to school. You race against time to complete various tasks (goals) on each level to earn a star for each task completed. You can earn stars for finishing the level in a certain amount of time, going through all the different bubble hoops without missing any, finding and locating different colored pebbles and matching them to the right platform, coming in first in a race etc etc.
You can go back to the level to try and get more stars if you don't get them all the first time.
Once you collect all the stars for one level you unlock a bonus round. When you complete the bonus round you get a surprise like storyboards for the actual movie.
This game starts off extremely easy, but gets harder and harder the further you progress. Right now I am stuck on a level called minefield where you have to chase Marlin (Nemo's Father) and a really mean looking shark named Bruce through an underwater minefield. There is a strong current to go against and you can't hit any of the mines and if you do you explode and have to start over.
If you reset the game before finishing a level you will lose all your progress for that particular level. Each level is divided into different parts with unique challenges to each. An animation sequence between each section you finish continues the story. Once you complete the entire level you can save your game.
This is a definite rental; if you are into cool graphics (Pixar!) and can put up with the long load times (I mean L-O-N-G). I would wait to buy it and rent it first.
Kids would have tons of fun on the start levels. Its like watching a cartoon and is pretty entertaining. Once all the stars have been achieved replay value for adults would be minimal though, youngsters would continue to like the storyline.
This game is pure eye candy and that is why i gave it a high score. I am the type of player that gets bored with games easily, especially if there is no replay value, and I think the slow load times would drive me away from playing this game too often.
This is a one player game.
Disney/PIXAR are the creators of Monsters Inc. and THQ is the creater of the game Scream Arena as well as Finding Nemo.
