Undoubtedly the best bass I have played with!

Date of Review:  Jul 24, 2001
The Bottom Line: The word "Fender" already makes this sound like an extremely nice bass guitar.
Review: I have played with many bass guitars throughout this past year, but I do not think any of these basses are as good as the Fender American Standard Jazz Bass. I have played with Squier basses (dislike the sound quality), Yamaha basses (produces a...

Classic Styling and Tone

Date of Review:  Oct 16, 2000
Review: The Mexico-made Fender Standard Jazz Bass is a good facsimile of the higher-priced USA-made models. With a few modifications, it goes from being a decent starter and backup instrument to a terrific #1.

First, let me highlight some of the...

What's all that Jazz about!

Date of Review:  Jul 15, 2003
The Bottom Line: Classic all American tone for half the price of an all American version.
Review: The Fender Standard Jazz Bass (Mexican)

Fender first introduced it in 1960 as the "Deluxe Mode." Since, Fender's Jazz Bass has stood the test of time to become one of the most played, most recorded instruments in history. Fender made...

Good Bass for this price range

Date of Review:  Mar 10, 2003
The Bottom Line: For a beginner, a worthwhile investment to start to learn Bass technique.
Review: I first picked up this bass at a local merchant brand new. I decided to pick this bass out due to a lot of the bass players in the punk genre (especially Alkaline Trio) using it for that single coil sound versus that muffled humbucker tone. However,...

Good Not Great But Don't Pass It Off

Date of Review:  Dec 14, 2000
Review: The Fender Standard Jazz Bass was my first bass and is currently my only bass. I got it for Christmas 1999 and plan to keep it for as long as it will last. It delivers a tone that is nice but nowhere as good as the tone from a bass with active...

Cheap but good

Date of Review:  Nov 6, 2000
Review: I'm more of a upright bass player so I didn't want to spend a lot of money on my electric bass when I went searching.

That's when I found the Mexican 5 string Jazz bass. It has a beautiful rich sound, and no buzzing like some other basses...

Your first 5 string.

Date of Review:  Jul 19, 2001
The Bottom Line: A decent instrument for first time 5 stringers. It's about a third of the price of an Fender American Standard V, but not merely a third of the quality.
Review: Except for the Squier line, this is the introductory Fender Jazz five string. It's made in Mexico to save $$, but in many ways is as good as its American cousin. The neck has good feel and passable string spacing. It's versatile for plucking,...

A Sherman tank with Ferrari lines

Date of Review:  Apr 26, 2007
The Bottom Line: Buy this solidly built classic bass. Get the color you like and set it up to your style. Spring for new pickups. Rule the world from the bottom up.
Review: I have been an avid Fender bass fan for quite sometime. In the electric bass world Fender did invent the wheel. The most valuable bass I own is a dead stock 1970 Jazz. But as beautiful as it sounds and looks, it can be a workhorse to play (couple...

Frugal Fretless

Date of Review:  Aug 19, 2001
The Bottom Line: You can get into fretless and still have enough to money to buy groceries.
Review: In all the years I've been playing bass...(hmmm..18 or 19 years now)...musically,I have figured out a few things. First of all, play in tune, play in time and try to remember that it's what you don't play that matters.
That's an old lesson that...

Not the best J

Date of Review:  Jun 5, 2001
The Bottom Line: The bass is relatively cheap, but not worth spending money.
Review: I was looking for a fretless bass, and as soon as I'm playing fretted jazz 5-string, the first thing I was checking out was fender jazz fretless.
Well, I have a bad luck to live in Jerusalem, which is the most beautiful - and today probably the...
