Expensive Junk

Have had this for more than a year now. 
Bought it because the Krups coffee maker works very well. 
It appears that making toast  must be more difficult than coffee.

Overall it leaves much to be desired and is expensive, slow and toasts bread unevenly.
The top edge of a piece of bread comes out burned while the bottom is un-toasted. 
This has forced me to estimate when the bread is half-toasted and to interrupt it and turn it over, what a pain. 
It also seems to have slowly become worse and worse over time, with one side now toasting at a very different level than the other.
It is also slow. It takes much longer than other toasters we have had, like Cuisinart or DeLonghi.

The lever for lifting the toast well above the top of the unit is nice, the bagel button, which toasts the inside cut sides of a bagel or muffin is nice.  
It is large, heavy and expensive, so I expected it to work well, but it doesn't.I would like this a lot more if it would just work better. 
Maybe it needs a USB port so I can control it with an iPhone.

We can send a man to the moon, but we can't seem to build a decent toaster???
