We purchased the Evenflo Convertible car seat when my son outgrew his infant carrier (around 25 lbs). It is very comfortable for him, with the extra padding when he was smaller, and without now that he is almost 2.
The packaging says that it can be used for a newborn, but I don't think I would be comfortable putting a small infant in such a large seat.
Why we purchased this seat:
Consumer reports rated this seat very highly for safety along with a Britax model. This seat was considerably cheaper than the Britax, and I like how it looks. I also liked the fact that it goes up to a higher weight than many others (I believe it is 80lbs), as my son is a chunk and will probably outgrow a seat by weight before height.
What I love: The seat is very comfy for my son, and pretty easy to use in the forward-facing position. When in rear-facing, it can be reclined (3 positions total). I also love the fact that you can remove the entire lining to wash it, and it is very easy to do.
What I don't love: The seat belts are difficult to tighten in rear-facing position because the knob that is used to tighten them sits against the (adult) seat. It would be handier if the knob was in the middle of the carseat instead of at the front.
Installation is not as easy as I would like. My husband has no trouble at all, but I always have a difficult time tightening the belt that secures the seat to the vehicle (using the latch system). One thing that I've seen on other seats that would make this much easier would be a loop to put your hand through to pull. A big part of my problem is just getting the leverage I need to pull it tight.
Summary: Overall, I love the Evenflo Convertible Car Seat. It's not perfect, but it's a safe, comfortable seat that is pretty user-friendly. And since it is a reasonable price, we are planning to buy a second one for other vehicles/future children.
