Good, Reliable, Solid, Quiet, Fun Printer
Date of Review: Nov 4, 2001
The Bottom Line: This printer is the best Epson printer I have ever used. Separate ink cartrigdes, long ink life, durable construction, quiet, fast, neat-looking.
Boy was I pleasantly surprised with this printer. My other Epson experiences (the 777 and the Photo 780) were not so good. However, Epson was thinking clearly when they produced this printer.
First of all, this printer is QUIET! (unlike the 777 and Photo 780) It has very solid construction.
It did not come with a parallel or USB cable.
This printer also has separate ink cartridges for each color (cyan, magenta, yellow, black). This comes in very handy because often blue runs out first while red is still only half-used. Also, each cartridge seems to last a long time (about 500 non-photo pages).
The software is exceptional. Each option seems very clear and illustrated well. Installation was simple and quick. The on-screen visible ink monitor is also very helpful. The diagnostic utilities, while comprehensive, were consulted very little because this printer works very well and I had few problems.
This printer prints very quick - especially in economy mode. The economy mode, while lighter than the other modes, is surprisingly clear (given my other Epson experiences). Photo quality printing is just that - photo quality. Expect to rival Eckerd's or Kmart's photo labs. Photo printing is slow - but fast when compared to other photo printers in this price range.
This printer has neither jammed on me nor behaved erratically. I am very happy overall with the performance of this printer.
