Author's Review
On the 2001's first track, "The Watcher", Dr. Dre contemplates all of the changes that the rap world had witnessed since his hiatus from Death Row. Sure he had released his Aftermath compilation and he had even contributed the mafioso themes of the Firm. However, the world frowned. They yearned for the West Coast sound that had put him and Snoop Dogg on the map in the early 90's. Haters questioned his ability to come with a quality product, they scorned his recent endeavors. Well, when a beast is cornered he will attack with full fury. The production beast in the Comption native was unleased and on the 2001 album he silenced all critics. Tracks such as "Forgot About Dre" featuring Eminem and "Still Dre" answer all the naysayers as Andre Young stakes his claim to the west coast sound once again. The essence of what made the original Chronic album a soundtrack to the streets is recaptured with a futuristic backdrop courtesy of Dr. Dres production capabilities. An arsenal of amazing guest vocals including a rejuvenated Snoop Dogg,a fiery Eminem and others including Nate Dogg, Kurupt, Knocturnal, 6Two and many up and coming LA make the album a family affair. One of the albums greatest moments comes from a pre-limelight Xzibit as he rips Whats The Difference to shreds. F**k You and Xxplosive are just a couple of the albums classics and showcase Dres abilities behind the boards. Hopefully, Dr. Dre can take West Coast rap to yet the next level when his next masterpiece DETOX is released later on this year!
