Author's Review
I bought this movie. I saw it once on pay per view and then I went out and bought it.
I'm hooked on this movie! I watch this movie sometimes 2-3 times in a week! I subject all of my friends to this movie! Sometimes 2-3 times a week!
Now, if this doesn't tell it all, for the sake of a more interesting opinion, I will say the following about this GEM of a movie!!
Mind you the whole time I'm writing this, I'm laughing and smiling because I'm seeing the movie in my mind now as I type it. :-)
Religion has long been a big dispute between 2 or more people on any given day, can start an argument or even a war! For all of you out there who think you have the only way in to heaven figured out, I beg you to watch this movie! You will never be the same! I promise you that!
This is a movie that makes you think and think HARD after it is all finished. And since it is quite hysterical in the presentation, I also recommend that you watch it about 4-5 times before passing total judgement on it. You will miss much while you are rolling around on the floor laughing vital body parts off! I can guarantee that too!
The movie is about 2 angels who got kicked out of heaven. They didn't want to do what god wanted them to do, so poof c-ya wouldn't wanna be ya living in wisc. like that for the rest of time eternal!
The catholic religion is most at target here, in a most endearing manner, but all are under the gun on this one, no one is safe! Think about it George Carlin plays the cardinal. Need I say more? For those of you who love Carlin, you know how he mocks everything, and in Dogma, he never falls short for a moment.
I will try not to spoil too much of the movie in this review, but here goes. After a rather amusing and thought provoking skit in the airport, we are clued in to the fact that a way has been discovered to get back in to heaven. Sin free, all because of a little thing called Dogma.
While it may sound like a wonderful thing, we are quick to find out that it's a really really REALLY bad idea to allow them angels to do what they want to do...we mustn't prove god wrong you know :)
What follows is a highly comedic path to enlightenment. For those of you who like killing sprees? We gotchya covered! For those of you who prefer little to no violence? We gotchya covered! For those of you who think every religion has it a little bit right and a lotta bit wrong? We gotchya covered!
I couldn't put enough words into this review to truly do this movie justice without giving major parts away, but suffice it to say that this is a definate keeper! I'm working the dvd into the budget as we speak and tryin to figure out how to pull it off!
Read the disclaimers at the beginning of the movie, even if you have to (gasp) *rewind* and pause to pull it off! Then approach this movie with a very open mind and you giggle-guard on because you'll need both to get the fullest potential of this movie!
Then look on the back of the movie jacket and find out which character in the movie had a really big role in the creation of Dogma....you may be well surprised on this one!!
Kudos! I loved this movie!
*(ok this is added for those who have insisted on knowing who is in the movie, etc.....)*
Kevin Smith, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are among some of the names you'll see in the credits of this film, but there are many others who make "quickie" appearances, including Janine Garafalou (not sure that's spelled properly wouldn't begin to know where to find out)
We also get to see a bit more of Chris Rock than you'd wanna tell your parents about, and thanks to the "surly" humor of the LeMetatron (voice of god) portrayed by Alan Rickman, we get a lot more laughs than you would think possible for a movie that basically deals with religion!
To tell any more would really give too many details away, but suffice it to say that nearly everyone you see in Dogma is a star, and if they weren't when they started, they shall be in short order! Give the movie a shot....trust me you won't be disappointed at all!
