Author's Review
Now, you are probably wondering, Why would this person take the time out of his life to write a review on the Internet about a pencil? Well, do you know that this is not just any pencil? Well, no it isnt. This is a Dixon Ticonderoga Tri-Write pencil with a triangular barrel with #2 lead that comes in a 12 pack! And do you know what? I am passionate about this little pencil. I even gave a few of the pencils that came in the 12 pack names. But that is not important at the moment, you need to know about the pencil, not the passion that I have for it.
Design
This pencil, in all of its glory, sports a very unique design that is not found in the common every day pencil. Even other Ticonderoga pencils do not meet the standards of this said pencil. This special design feature is the triangular shape of the pencil. Probably the first thing that you will notice about the pencil is that it is not just a circular shape, or a hexagon shape, it is triangular. This helps it form correctly to fit your hand. With this pencil, there is none of this nonsense of having the pencil dig into your fingers causing them to feel extreme pain after writing a paper for English class. With the Dixon Ticonderoga Tri-Write pencil, you wont be able to tell that you have written an English paper, unless you develop carpoltunnel, or arthritis in your wrists, but not from the pencil.
On Ticonderogas Tri-Write pencil, there is a smooth coating of yellow paint that makes their pencils famous. It makes you hand jump for joy when you pick up the pencil to write a 10,000 word essay about how wood develops within the core of a tree.
Lead
Now, what kind of sub-header name is lead anyways? Seriously, lead isnt used in pencils these days, thats graphite, the stuff used to make cubic zirconium. Do you know what? You are right. I mislabeled this sub-header, but everybody still knows the core of pencils is called lead, so that is what it is going to be called for the next decade. But nevertheless, the lead in Ticonderoga pencils is perfect. It writes so perfectly, and when it is sharpened, it writes lines so thin, a mechanical pencil cannot beat it. But there is also a problem with the lead, and that is that because it writes so perfectly, it also is a little bit soft, not too much, but when lead is soft, you have to sharpen it more often because you go through it faster.
Eraser
I have always been a fan of quality pencil erasers. Currently, I think that those white rubber erasers that come on certain mechanical pencils are the best, but Ticonderogas are second in line. The eraser is pink, and it pretty much erases everything it touches. Imagine the magic selection brush in Photoshop (for those who know what it is) combined with the eraser tool, this is what it is, it is like it is on steroids, only it is legal in the Paper Olympics and Tour de Paper. The eraser takes away the graphite so well, that you can barely tell that anything was ever there, it is not perfect, but it is very close.
Sharpening
One thing that I noticed about sharpening this pencil is that the first time, it is slightly difficult because you have to get the blade of the sharpener around the sudden curve of the pencil, but once you get past the first sharpen, it sharpens just like any other pencil, maybe just easier.
The bottom line
Finally, I think that if you are looking for a wonderful pencil, you should look no further than this Ticonderoga.
