Was it REALLY a divine revelation?

A brief summary on what this book is about: Jesus supposedly visited the author of this book sometime back in the 70's. He gave her a divine revelation and she was told to come back and write a book about it in hopes to help spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.

It's been a while since I read this book, but can remember clearly what I thought at the time. It absolutely terrified me! Mary K. Baxter's description of hell is frightening. After some further study, I don't believe she had a divine revelation.

There's one place in the book where she says she saw a minister who was in hell. When she asked why he was there, the answer was that he knew of a little boy who needed shoes or something and he was going to give him the money, but later he decided not to do it because the boys' parents would probably spend the money or drugs or alcohol. This is unbiblical. Salvation is by grace, not by works. Going by the above statement, this man was condemned to hell because of a 'work' he didn't do. It never says anywhere that he wasn't saved.

There's also a part where she says that certain sinners receive a different punishment in hell. One in particular is that homosexuals were swimming in a lake of fire, chained together. God is no respecter of persons. Why would one group of people have a worse punishment than another group?

I don't recommend this book. While it's an interesting read if you're into this sort of thing, it just isn't Biblically correct.
