What would happen if you met yourself at another age? Could it open doors to your future or close doors in your past? Could it remind you of where you've been or where you are going or even where you planned to go but forgot?
The Movie
Russ Duritz (Bruce Willis) seems to have it all. He has achieved success in his life, or so he thinks. In a twist that forces him remember his goals and rethink his life, Russ meets a young boy, Rusty (Spencer Breslin)....only to find out that the young boy is him.
The movie sort of rambles on at first, making you wonder what either version of this person has to learn from this encounter, but after an important re-aquainting (or pre-aquainting as the case may be) period for both, it soon becomes obvious that they both have something to gain.
Rusty needs a little confidence... a mentor of sorts. He needs to know that he isn't responsible for his mother's untimely death and that he has what it takes to stand up for himself.
Russ has a little more to learn. After getting caught up in living life, he has forgotten his dreams and after remembering realizes that his life has gotten quite a bit off course.
With a little help from a faceless stranger (nope,I'm not giving it away...you can't drag it out of me) to bring these two together, they find that they can help each other solve their problems making their life more fulfilled.
The Cast
Bruce Willis is known for his ability to play a variety of roles. While he is outstanding in dramatic roles like The Sixth Sense, he has also shown that he can pick up the funnier, light-hearted roles just as eloquently.
Spencer Breslin is a relative newcomer that has outstanding potential. He's made smaller appearances in other big movies like Meet the Parents, but keep your eye out...this rosy cheeked little guy is up and coming.
Emily Mortimer who plays Amy, Russ's love interest, has played enough supporting roles that her face is familiar. She's another that I believe will be more and more in the spotlight in the near future.
Other notable characters are Lily Tomlin as Russ's assistant Janet and Jean Smart as a journalist that Russ helps who then returns the favor.
What I liked
Personally I liked the whole movie. Not only is it funny for kids, it's got that twist Disney is so famous for making it funny for adults too.
The story is inspiring. So often we forget the dreams we had as kids. We shove them aside as childhood fantasies, discount them as small person whims. It forces us to all ask ourselves...
Where did you want your life to go and has it?
