Author's Review
As of late, the RPG genre of games hasn't been looking so good. A lot of RPG's are just continuations of previous games, or are cheap imitations of previous RPG's. Blizzard created Diablo, an RPG that took the genre back to the basics: kill the enemy, gain experience, gain levels, develop characters. To no surprise, Diablo is one of the most popular RPG's out today.
Evil forces have been tormenting the town of Tristram for ages, practically destroying it in the process. The townspeople report seeing creatures that seemed to be incarnations of their nightmares. The lord of these creatures, Diablo, attempted to take the soul of some person in town and begin to build his power, so that he may eliminate the town of Tristram completely. He sought to take the soul of King Leoric. Leoric, however, resisted this, and Diablo was unable to do this. He released the King, however, Diablo's attempted occupation caused the King to lose his sanity.
Diablo then planned to take the soul of the King's child, Prince Albrecht. He influenced the Arch-Bishop Lazarus to kidnap the Prince and bring him to Diablo. The King, outraged, went on a mad search for his child, accusing and executing many townspeople. As the King's sanity reached the breaking point, his loyal knights were sadly forced to kill him. The townspeople went into the dungeon to search for Leoric's son... few returned alive.
Now, you, the hero, are to search for Leoric's son, and destroy Diablo before it is to late...
Diablo went back to the heart of RPG's, and it was successful in giving the RPG genre new life. This is just one of those games that has nothing wrong with it, and it seems that you could never tire of it. With the ability to play over the Internet for free, Diablo's popularity continues to increase. Now... this has built up the anticipation of Blizzard's next game, Diablo II.....
