Photographic Adventures of a Real, Live Sony Cybershot DSC-S40 Owner (Wowwww!)

Date of Review:  Feb 14, 2006
The Bottom Line: Sony Cybershot DSC-S40 isn't right for pros or enthusiasts, but for ordinary folks like you and me, IT'S A WINNER!
Review: One of the most attractive deals in digital cameras these days is the Sony Cybershot DSC-S40. It's an enticing package of good features, small size, and known brand, all rolled up with a ribbon of low price tags. I paid $130 for mine at Sears (no...

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S40 4.1-Megapixel Digital Camera - Inexpensive, Compact and Fast

Date of Review:  Aug 30, 2005
The Bottom Line: I recommend Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S40 if you an inexpensive 4.1-Megapixel digital camera with good features and performance. It is easy...
Review: After trying out and being slightly disappointed with the Fuji FinePix A345, I decided to give a slightly more expensive Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S40 a try. I got it for $158, which was only $20 more than the A345 cost me. At such a low price, this Sony...

Fast small camera with wider than average lens. Low-light images very poor.

Date of Review:  Apr 18, 2005
The Bottom Line: Small, yet takes AA batteries! Wider than average lens! VGA movies! Great battery life! But low-light photos are unusually bad.
Review: I was looking for a pocket-sized digicam with a wide angle lens (28mm equivalent) for landscapes and indoor photos. I also wanted something that took standard AA batteries.

That turns out to be impossible. As of this date (January 2006)...

Excellent entry level camera

Date of Review:  Jul 28, 2005
The Bottom Line: Despite the small display the excellent mpg movie mode and pro quality lens make this a standout camera in this class.
Review: Too often products will try and do too much and generally be mediocre at everything including it's core function. Not so with this camera. For $190 you get a compact, versatile camera with features that belie it's price.

At 4" wide by 2"...

Excellent Entry-Level Digicam

Date of Review:  Mar 11, 2006
The Bottom Line: Get this camera if you're on a budget and want something easy to use.
Review: I have the privilege of using many cameras in my line of work. From entry-level cameras such as this one to digital SLR cameras and "news cameras" ($15,000+). I'll tell you from the outset that for the money this camera is smokin'!

The...

Good while it lasted...

Date of Review:  Dec 29, 2006

Sony DSC-S40 - acceptable Point & Shoot alternative

Date of Review:  May 3, 2006
The Bottom Line: This camera will do the job, but it is average in most respects.
Review: A few years ago I spent $800 and purchased what at that time was one of the top of the line digital cameras, and Olympus C-3030 3.3 megapixel digital camera. I loved it, however as the years passed I found that the Olympus was getting old and bulky...

Buy a Canon instead

Date of Review:  Nov 1, 2006
The Bottom Line: Buy a Canon instead. Sony has terrible shutter-lag, so many snapshots come out blurry; also the colors and exposure are not as good as my old Canon.
Review: No, I am not in any way affiliated with Canon, it's just that I have owned both and the Canon is a far better camera.

I bought the Sony only because I have an old Canon (A40) which is relatively heavy and bulky by today's standards and I...

Who is Carl Zeiss???

Date of Review:  Jan 25, 2006
The Bottom Line: This is a great little camera
Review: I'm not sure who he is, but his name is on my camera.

Please note that this review is written for beginner user, not for someone who actually knows what a mega pixel is.

This is my first digital camera, and I have to say that I...

Incredible camera for the money, not typical of Sony!

Date of Review:  May 20, 2005
The Bottom Line: I'd recommend the DSC-S40 to anyone looking for an excellent digital camera with plenty of room for growth while not breaking the bank.
Review: While it has long been my opinion that Sony makes electronics of above-average quality, it has also long been my opinion that much of the extra cost of Sony products vs. competitors is paying merely for the Sony brand name. This camera is an extreme...
